Romeich happy to see Shenseea become an ‘alpha’ | Entertainment

Today Shenseea, drops her highly anticipated debut album ALPHA, so titled because she is an “alpha female … dominant … it’s [her] first…everything about being a leader it’s just [her]”.

For her manager, Romeich Major, who “discovered” her six years ago, today is surreal.

“This moment is very sentimental to me, just as it is to Shenseea,” Romeich told THE WEEKEND STAR.

“People always say that when it comes to Shenseea mi go harder for her than any other artiste. But there is a special bond between us. Remember, her son calls me ‘Dad’. I met Shenseea when he was three months old. It’s like when you plant a tree and the fruits grow, that fruit will always taste sweeter to you than one that you pick at your neighbour’s. I am so happy to see her so happy.”

Shenseea, the hard-working promo girl who ditched the party glamour for the onstage reality of being a dancehall artiste, really saw herself as a singer, not a deejay. Romeich recalled with laughter the first time she went into the studio to record.

“I knew she always wanted to sing and so I sent her a riddim over WhatsApp and told her to write a song. She came to the studio the next day with Jiggle Jiggle. And when I listened to it I laughed and told her to come back. Well, the next day, she was at the studio before me. I could see that she was hungry and she was able to see her issues and improve on them. There and then, I made up my mind to work with her. I knew that the sky was the limit,” a confident Romeich said.

AL PHA is released via Rich Immigrants/Interscope Records, a joint venture headed by Jamaican producer, Rvssian. In 2019, Shenseea signed with Interscope Records through the Rich Immigrants imprint. The first release was Blessed, a collaboration with Tyga.

On Instagram Live in January, Shenseea promised that ALPHA would showcase her versatility as an artiste.

Romeich agrees that the 14-track ALPHA, which features collaborations with Tyga, 21 Savage, Offset, Megan Thee Stallion, Beenie Man and Sean Paul, is a diverse album.

“I’m in love with all the songs so it’s hard for me to choose one. Each song stands on its own. If you want carnival vibes, it’s there. If yuh believe inna God, if you want raunchy dancehall, Afrobeats, it is all there. Remember, Shenseea is a versatile artiste … she sings, raps and deejays … and the album has all the elements,” Romeich declared.

Romeich and Shenseea have been busy doing the press junkets and hearing statements from various quarters that “Yuh buss now!” and “Yuh big!” But Romeich has a bigger vision and is not subscribing to that narrative.

“We have come a long way, but the next phase of our journey is just starting. We are creeping. My greatest dream is to see Shenseea fully international on a scale like Rihanna for example. And we are ready to press that gas and carry the flag high,” Romeich said.
