Toronto-based singer Richie Flo pays homage to his home parish on ‘ St Thomas mi Born’, his fourth EP.

He said that living in Canada for the past 12 years has made him love St Thomas even more.

“Because I was born in St Thomas, I want to show appreciation to the place that made me who I am and has created lots of other great artistes. My fondest memories are growing up in the countryside, going to the river, swimming and catching janga (shrimp). Also [I loved] playing football and cricket and just having fun,” said Richie Flo.

One of the songs from St Thomas mi Born is Another Day, which is produced by Dean Fraser. It was released in late 2022.

Richie Flo has been recording since 2005. He started as a deejay, but turned to singing as his career progressed. In addition to three EPs, he has one album, Live, Love & Music, to his name.

Although usually cited among Jamaica’s poorest parishes, St Thomas is rich in musical talent. Master drummer Count Ossie (leader of The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari), The Slickers (the group that sang Johnny Too Bad), Bushman and Natty King are some of the artistes born there.
