Race day a success for Sandals Resorts

Sandals Resorts is expressing its satisfaction about the success of the South Coast Hotels and Resorts of Barbados Race Day and is hopeful that it will continue to be a major attraction for locals and tourists alike.

Over the weekend, Sandals was the only hotel to have two sponsored races at the Race Day that was staged at the Historic Garrison Savannah.

“Racing has always been a Saturday tradition here in Barbados and for us as the leading hotel on the island to be a part of it in a small way only adds to the value of what we offer for tourists when they are here to experience this wonderful island,” Communications Manager David Hinds told Barbados TODAY.

“I think everyone had a great time. When I spoke to our guests they were over the moon and the staff members along with the large members of the general public in attendance were saying it was a good and fun race day,” Hinds added.

Sandals management joined fellow team members and guests of the resort to present the winning trophy to Lady Seale.

Sandals first took part in the event in 2020 and according to Resort Manager, Patrick Drake they were more than happy at the opportunity to be involved in the popular Saturday pastime. And having two races on the same day this past Saturday was just a matter of luck.

“For us it was a pleasure to be part of the day’s activities. We did this not only for our valued guests but as you can see several of our team members and neighbours are also present having a good time, it’s part of what we do to find the right balance of work and play’” Drake said while adding that the event was a win for everyone involved.

The luxury included resort sponsored the third race on the day ‘Sandals Royal Barbados Trophy’ for West Indian-bred 3-year-olds which was won by Pace; and the eighth race the ‘Sandals Barbados Trophy’ for 3-year-olds and older which was won by Criterion.

Although reluctant to commit to future race days, both hotel executives remained confident that Sandals will play a role in local sports for years to come.

“We are a Caribbean company and sports is part of the Caribbean. We recently were sponsors of West Indies Cricket and other events; so, who knows what maybe on the cards for us in the future,” Hinds added.
