Police in Barbados have launched an investigation into the alleged suicide of one of their own.
While the administration would neither confirm nor deny that there was another suicide, they told Barbados TODAY this morning that one of their veteran law enforcers had died in “unnatural” circumstances.
“On the morning of Thursday, March 12, the police at Black Rock Station received a call from a family member of Sergeant Sean Taylor-John that he was feeling unwell and needed medical attention. We responded. At the time there were no ambulances based on what the family member said,” Police Public Relations Officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss told Barbados TODAY. The deceased lived at Lot 7 Rock Hall Development, St Thomas.
Inniss said soon after police officers arrived on the scene, an ambulance came and took the 50-year-old Taylor-John to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). The PRO noted that the distress call had come from the residence of Francis Taylor Green at Cumberbatch Road, Fairfield, Black Rock, St Michael at around 5:22 a.m..
“Medical personnel reported that he had subsequently passed away on the morning of Friday 13 while there at the hospital. He was last there with family members at the hospital and obviously we have started an indepth investigation into the matter. A lot of the queries you may have, you may want to ask the family, but we are not at liberty to give out any further information,” the police spokesman stated.
“We can confirm, yes, unfortunately, the passing of our colleague, Sergeant Sean Taylor-John. He was the sergeant at the Police Training and Recruitment Department. As usual we will wait for autopsy results like anything else, so we can confirm anything further,” he added.
Inniss continued: “We see it as probably an unnatural death, but he died at the hospital, so they would help us determine how it should be treated.”
Efforts to reach the family this afternoon were unsuccessful.
