No UK ban – Minister Bostic

Barbados will not be closing its doors to the United Kingdom just yet, Minister of Health and Wellness, Lt. Col. Jeffery Bostic has said.

While Caribbean countries including Grenada and Jamaica have banned travel from the UK after Britain reported a new strain of the coronavirus, Bostic told reporters at a press conference this evening that Barbados will not be going that route at this stage.

“At this point in time, we are not considering that as an option,” he said.

Bostic added:  “We are in contact with WHO/PAHO who is providing guidance in terms of this particular one and at this time we do not see any requirement for the closure of our airspace, from flights coming from the United Kingdom and if the situation warrants that we will give early notice to the press and also we will make it known to the airlines who come here.”
