The highly anticipated return of reggae band Morgan Heritage to the Reggae Sumfest stage marked its first appearance in a decade at the festival. However, the group clarified that their prolonged absence was not intentional but rather due to their commitments in other international markets.

“We’ve just been doing a lot of work overseas. Lots of work in Africa and lots of touring in international markets,” Peter ‘Peetah’ Morgan said.

“We just felt it was time. And with our father passing on last year, the time was right to perform at home, especially, with us dropping a new Morgan Heritage album this year entitled The Homeland. The feeling was overwhelming with joy and a bit of sadness with our father not being here. After the performance, we all felt fulfilled,” Peetah added.

He admitted that the absence provided a different perspective as the group had a lot more material for its set.

“We have a lot more songs that are very well-known today that we didn’t have when we first performed at Sumfest. So it was great to see the catalogue being received so well,” said Peetah.

“The new songs from The Homeland were received very well. You could see on the audience faces that they were visually and musically engaged and entertained,” said fellow group member Mojo.
