‘Live With North Street’ embraces new talent | Entertainment

In celebration of Reggae Month, a number of emerging artistes were invited to showcase their skills and put reggae music on display in a never-before-seen episode of Gleaner Premium’s ‘Live with North Street’.

The virtual event featured Vyzadon, Bingi, and J Written, backed by the Rootz Impact Band.

Prince ‘Vyzadon’ Shand, who hails from Trench Town, paid homage to greats such as the legendary Bob Marley, Alton Ellis, Dean Fraser, and Leroy Sibbles. Vyzadon performed his single Trench Town, which peaked at No. 2 on iTunes Reggae Singles Chart in Norway and No. 15 on Amazon Music UK New Releases Reggae Singles Chart. He belted out easy crowd favourites One Day, Not Right Now and Humble.

Hasai ‘Bingi’ McLennon entertained with Ready Now, Believe in Me, and The Truth, much to the delight of invited guests. Reflecting on his performance, Bingi said, “Music is in my DNA. It’s what I live for.”

Jason ‘J Written’ Wright, who is also a community activist, left it all on the stage, performing singles Dance and Groove and Strange Fruit, while bringing a dynamic twist to Millions. Nothing Like Love was well-received by all in attendance.

J Written developed a solid European fan base in 2019 with his first major release, Fear to Understand, featuring international reggae artiste Alborosie. He has since been on the promotional trail and is working on his debut album, 13 Kings.

The backing band, Rootz Impact Band, features flautist Camillia Crossdale; keyboardist Micah Treleven; bass player Rajae Rochester; drummer Odane Thomas; and guitarist Jowayne Campbell. They have backed artistes such as Samory-I, Dre Tosh and Sizzla.
