The Bridgetown Cruise Terminals Inc, which has been operating the cruise terminal for many years, will be closing its operations by year-end.
The announcement came from Chairman of the Cruise Terminals Inc Geoffrey Roach, at the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association’s (BHTA) Fourth Quarterly General Meeting on Wednesday, where he also announced that he would be stepping down as Chairman of the BHTA.
“As we approach the start of a new calendar year it is with a sense of sadness that I must inform the membership that I will be stepping down as chairman of the BHTA at the end of December 2021. This has been brought on by the fact that Bridgetown Cruise Terminals Inc. will cease to operate the cruise terminal on December 31, 2021 and as such will be moving in the not-too-distant future, to wind up operations and the company,” he said.
Roach explained that with Bridgetown Cruise Terminals Inc no longer being a member of the BHTA, he is unable to continue as chairman. He said he has already made the board aware of the development.
“Do not take this as a good-bye message as I have committed to the board that I will be available to provide support in any way possible, particularly to the First Vice Chair Ms Renee Coppin who will lead the board on my demitting office,” he said.
Roach thanked his team and the Board of Directors at the Bridgetown Cruise Terminals Inc. for the support they have given him to serve as BHTA chairman. He said without the support from 2019 to present, it would not have been possible.
“I also wish to say a big thank you to the boards that have served with me for their support and to the secretariat staff for their commitment to the tasks at hand each and every day,” the chairman said.
