Prosecutors on Thursday confirmed that the file in the malicious destruction of property case that has been brought against Charlie Chaplin is now complete, paving the way for the trial of the veteran deejay to begin on June 13.
Charlie Chaplin, given name Dr Richard Bennett, is alleged to have caused damage to the complainant’s motor vehicle after he reportedly intervened in a dispute between his daughter and one of her neighbours at her apartment complex in the Corporate Area.
He has denied the allegation.
When the case was last mentioned on December 7 last year, the prosecution told the court that the crown was awaiting copies of video footage of the incident, and that the investigating officers were requesting more time.
On Thursday, Charlie Chaplin’s attorney, Indera Padmore, told Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague that they have received full disclosure, including the video footage.
