Burger King donates $250,000 to JAVAA | Entertainment

Burger King has signalled its support for Jamaican artistes with a donation of $250,000 to the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artiste and Affiliates (JAVAA), which has been having financial challenges as a result of COVID-19 and the restriction of live concerts and stage shows on the island.

Sabrena McDonald Radcliffe, head of sales and marketing and group corporate communications director of the Lake Group of Companies, local franchisees for Burger King, said that her company was “delighted to contribute to the recovery of JAVAA, which champions early music from the 1950s to the 1980s and has worked to bring recognition and financial support to artistes, many of whom participated in the formation of Jamaican popular music”.

“Burger King has always been committed to supporting the development of arts and entertainment. So much of who we are as Jamaicans is our music and musical heritage. This is why answering JAVAA’s call for assistance was an easy and prompt decision for us,” McDonald Radcliffe explained.

MAJOR LOCAL EVENTS

Burger King has traditionally sponsored a number of major local events, including early editions of carnival and successive Jamaica Cultural Development Commission competitions.

JAVAA Chairman Frankie Campbell said that “JAVAA is more than pleased to receive the support of the Burger King family. We have had a relationship with the Lakes from the early days when they generously provided free accommodation for us at their entertainment complex in Half-Way Tree for open houses and live performances.

“This donation by Burger King will go a long way in paying for the insurance premiums of the JAVAA members, many of whom work in the music industry and are unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are extremely grateful,” Campbell declared.
