Bright soars to silver – Stabroek News

Track and Field standout, Chantoba Bright snared Guyana’s first and only medal on Friday, a silver at the Junior Pan Am Games which concludes today in Colombia. 

At the inaugural event where Guyana was represented by seven disciplines, the native of Victory Valley, Linden was the lone bright spot who stood out from the contingent. 

After placing fifth in the long jump, Bright who competes in the NCAA with Kansas State, returned to disturb the sand in 13.50m in the triple jump event and claimed the runner-up spot behind Cuba’s Leyanis Hernandez (14.39m). 

The 21 year-old hopped, skipped and jumped just off her personal best of 13.53m. 

The most decorated local junior track and field athlete has a knack for stepping on the podium at international events. 

Bright, a multiple CARIFTA Games medalist snared a silver and a bronze medal at the South American U-23 Championships in Ecuador in October. 

Team Guyana was represented by young athletes in the disciplines of athletics, badminton, boxing, swimming, table tennis, weight lifting and squash.
