What you will do
The Bank of Canada’s Information Technology Services (ITS) Analytics Environment and Currency Portfolio provides the applications, software and hardware to support the business functions of the Bank’s Currency and Economic departments.
As a developer with the Analytics Environment and Currency Portfolio, you are part of a dedicated and innovative team that maintains, integrates and builds solutions key to our internal and external stakeholders.

As a developer, you will collaborate with architects, scrum masters, product owners, and other team members in an Agile environment to provide critical technology and data services to a variety of business stakeholders.

Your contribution is crucial as we improve and transform operational, research, and analytical services to provide a more robust working environment for Bank staff and our partners.

As a Developer, you will:

  • Analyze, design and implement enhancements to existing software solutions to meet business requirements
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with coworkers, internal clients and external counterparts
  • Perform technical and root-cause analysis on issues and make recommendations for correction
  • Provide second and third-line support, including occasional evening and weekend work, as required
  • Strong desire and capability to learn, help others, contribute to a positive work environment and develop new skills
  • Create working procedures and documentation on solutions and populate knowledge databases, testing plans and results
  • Seek new ways of doing or providing services to our clients; changing or reconfiguring approaches to improve efficiency and capacity
  • Conduct and/or coordinate quality assurance (QA) and user acceptance testing (UAT) activities of software releases, prior to deployment, to confirm issue resolution and to ensure quality of software releases
  • Manage the deployment of software releases across the environment landscape (e.g., development, quality assurance, staging, production)

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with Python, AirFlow, Shell, SQL, Jira, Jenkins and Selenium
  • Experience with Tableau
  • Experience and understanding of source control systems essential, including advanced branching and merging techniques (e.g., Git)
  • Willingness to learn and be challenged
  • Experience teaching others

Your education and experience
This position required a bachelor’s degree or diploma in computer science, information technology, or computer engineering and two years or less years of relevant work experience in the IT field with software and database development or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $63,500 to $74,600 (job grade 14)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
