Payment Canada, the Financial institutions, the Canadian Payments Industry and the Bank of Canada are all engaged in a multi-year Payments’ ecosystem modernization journey which will, amongst other things, be replacing LVTS and ACSS and introducing a new real-time retail payment system.
What you will do
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Business System Analyst team in the Funds Management and Banking (FBD) Department, you are primarily responsible for providing your expertise in business analysis to clarify and document user’s needs and translating those so that the scrum teams are able to understand and implement the features required by Banking Operations and the Payments Modernization initiative.
When you join our team, you will;
- Work within a Scrum team to gather and convert business requirements into specifications and user stories, contribute to the testing effort and maintain documentation in the form of processes, procedures and training material.
- Monitor the banking environment to identify opportunities to improve the functioning of the business and the delivery of business services as well as how to adapt systems to the ever-changing operational context.
- Participate in projects and testing activities and provide subject-matter expertise.
For one of our scrum teams (2 positions), we are looking for relevant experience in the following areas (in addition to the above):
- Business intelligence (business performance measurement, balanced scorecard)
- Data management tasks (such as data governance, data stewardship, data quality management)
- Implementation of data related solutions (data warehouse, business intelligence solutions, master data management solutions)
You will be expected to work with data modellers to understand data requirements and current state within the source business systems. You’ll also work with ETL developers to understand data issues encountered during data processing. Additionally, you’ll assist in defining an appropriate data reconciliation method (between source system and data warehouse) as well as work with report developers to understand the expected business results for a given report or analysis.
What you need to succeed
To perform your day to day work you;
- Are experienced in eliciting, documenting and managing high level needs and requirements for large scale IT enabled projects using an Agile methodology and converting those into user stories for consumption by the scrum team.
- Exemplify the Agile mindset, valuing psychological safety, equal voice, visibility, transparency, purpose and belonging.
- Have effective verbal and written communication skills that allow you to conduct needs assessments with the end users, provide context to the development and quality assurance teams, and create business analysis artifacts that are easily consumed by business and technical users.
- Use analytical skills to work with the team in finding and validating solutions
- Are a team player who can easily adapt to change, working with a diverse group of stakeholders, scrum team members and colleagues while managing multiple tasks of varying complexities
- Are a self-starter, you take on responsibility without having to be prompted to do so.
Nice-to-have
- Knowledge of high-available banking and payments systems and/or the Canadian Payments landscape
- Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certification in Business Analysis (CCBA) or other relevant professional designations
- Problem root cause analysis experience
Your education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, computer science or related discipline and a minimum of five years of experience providing consultation in the development of business requirements as well as the delivery of business system analysis, ensuring proper consideration of people, processes, systems design and technology.
- Experience with the agile software development methodology in the capacity of a business analyst

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $79,100 to $94,400 (job grade 16)
- Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
