At the centre of events is Stephen Tarkman, the wealthy, enigmatic head of the Tarkman musical trust and school. Felicity’s relationship with Stephen is strained at times, not least because she cannot hide her mistrust of Stephen’s friend, Julia Morton.

But as time passes Felicity begins to acknowledge how she really feels about Stephen …

Yet just as she does so, disaster strikes. Janet goes missing and in the village nearby, a house catches fire.
