The Olympics delivers a first full day of action at Paris 2024 on Saturday after a memorable opening ceremony.
Team GB earned its first medal of the Games after Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen claimed diving bronze in dramatic circumstances, winning Britain’s first medal in the women’s diving in 64 years. Other medals available to Team GB will come in road cycling, where Anna Henderson and Josh Tarling compete in the individual time trial event, on a wet course in Paris.
The swimming takes centre stage this evening with Team GB’s focus is on Adam Peaty as he bids to win three consecutive 100m breastroke Olympic gold medals. But the race of the day, and perhaps the meet, puts Katie Ledecky, Ariarne Titmus and Summer McIntosh against each other in the women’s 400m freestyle.
Also look out for Rafael Nadal, fresh from starring in Friday night’s opening ceremony, with the Spaniard partnering Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s doubles as tennis begins at Roland Garros.

TRY! Andrew Knewstubb with the decisive score and the All Blacks emerge victorious.
Crushing for Argentina, who had battled back so well.
But some smart interplay and the perfect dummy from Knewstubb was enough to break the Pumas in extra-time. Next up… USA v Ireland!

Olympics 2024: Women’s time trial
And we have just seen a first glimpse of just how difficult this course is in the wet conditions, Danish rider Ludwig has just come off her bike trying to go round a corner.
It slid from underneath her around a roundabout and she had to pick herself up and get back on. She did so immediately so seems to be okay, but that might just shake her a bit going forwards!
And Knibb, the American rider and triathlete and one of the favourites has also just come off at exactly the same point!
Knibb falls again almost immediately! A second fall for the American, she had a lead of over 30 seconds at the first check, but that will have cost her.

Moses Leo bundles over for New Zealand with just a few seconds remaining, Argentina denied at the death again.
But a missed conversion ensures extra-time, five minutes… First score wins, this is tense and the crowd love it!
It’s nip and tuck here, a few knock-ons and the game has become messy. The crowd urging every player to conjure up something audacious, every flick of the wrists to launch the ball out wide is greeted with a roar.

Olympics 2024: Tennis at Roland-Garros
Novak Djokovic is making light work of Matthew Ebden, winning the first set without dropping a game and dropping an astounding eight points.
Simply, the gulf in class between the players seems to be too wide for the Australian, who has struggled to compete with his opponents composure and consistency.
The world number two has barely broken a sweat thus far, and the second set is now underway.
On the neighbouring court, Carlos Alcaraz has also taken a one set lead over Lebanon’s Hady Habib, with the first set ending on a score of 6-3.

Olympics 2024: Women’s cycling time trial
The first riders are getting underway in the women’s time trial.
Britain’s rider in this event is Anna Henderson. She will make her Olympic debut after switching from skiing to cycling at the age of 15.
She has claimed two British time trial titles, a silver at last year’s European championships, but has not raced since the end of June.

Olympics 2024: Rugby sevens
We’re underway at the Stade de France and it’s a cracking atmosphere. It’s dried out, too, and the fans are in a boisterous mood for New Zealand v Argentina.
An hour until the hosts take on South Africa in that crunch semi-final. It promises to be a thrilling afternoon of sevens.
And the crowd is thrilled at this start from the All Blacks, Akuila Rokolisoa rips the ball away from a couple of Pumas before wriggling free and scurrying back under the posts, TRY! New Zealand lead 7-0.
But Argentina hit back in a hurry, Tobias Wade finishing close to the posts and we’re all square at the break.

Olympics 2024: Tennis at Roland-Garros
The next round of matches are now underway at Roland-Garros.
On the Court Philippe-Chatrier, Australia’s Matthew Ebden, who primarily plays doubles and has a career high singles ranking of 39, has the unenviable task of playing against Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam winner.
Elsewhere, recent Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is facing Lebanon’s Hady Habib, the Spaniard currently leading by three games to nil.

Australian boxer hits out at ‘sad’ French rules over hijab at Paris Olympics
Australian boxer Tina Rahimi has criticised France’s “sad” rules on secularism and athletes wearing the hijab at the Paris Olympics.
Muslim French sprinter Sounkamba Sylla stated that wearing a hijab would prevent her from appearing in Friday’s Opening Ceremony.
While the French Olympic Committee said Sylla accepted the option of wearing a cap instead. The host nation, home to Europe’s largest Muslim minority, enforces laws to protect the principle of secularism under which state employees and school pupils are banned from wearing religious symbols and clothing in public institutions.

Game, set, match, Swiatek! The Pole breaks Begu to take victory in round one, overcoming nervous moments in the second set to progress as Begu gifted the final point to her opponent through a double fault.
The performance was far from Swiatek’s best. Begu, ranked 136th in the world, made her opponent work for the win, demanding 14 forced errors and managing two aces where Swiatek managed none.
Looking to round two, Swiatek will face either Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska or France’s Diane Parry.
Outdoor play remains weather affected, though the next indoor match will see Novak Djokovic take on Australia’s Matthew Ebden.

Adam Peaty ‘didn’t have to prove anything’ in Olympics heats
Adam Peaty, speaking at the La Defense Arena after making his first appearance of the Olympics in the men’s 100m breaststroke heats, where he qualified for tonight’s semi-finals with ease:
“The whole field was a bit slow in a sense. I saw the scores come in, and I was like I didn’t really have to push anything too far. I didn’t have to prove anything. Let’s see what we get tonight. We can’t win the battle now, we have to win it tomorrow.”
On the difference between Tokyo and Paris:
“Very different, I was a younger man with a little bit more to prove and a little bit angrier back then, but obviously, tonight we got a shift to do, and I feel that we have to be on our A game to make sure we are into that final.”
On controversy leading up to the Games:
“It is always in the back of your mind as an athlete. You definitely want a fair game and to win fair and be around people who do that and live by the same values and that’s all I will say on that. I think everyone knows what we are talking about, but at the same time, we have a job to do, and we can’t let that be a cloud on the road. “
