THE sun has made an occasional springtime appearance and with summer hopefully around the corner, everyone should soon be enjoying some warmth.
For me, this means packing away thick winter threads and kitting my wardrobe out with lighter summer staples. I like to rotate my clothes and free up space as the seasons change, and these are my favourite storage tips . . .
HANDY HANGER HACKS: If you’d rather just cram as much as you can into your current wardrobe, I recommend slimline clothes hangers. They may be small but they’re a lifesaver when it comes to fitting as much away as possible.
A set of 50 non-slip grey velvet hangers from studio.co.uk is £22.99, but you could get two packs of 25 flocked hangers from Dunelm for £10.
SAVE: £12.99
SHOE SMART: Pack away winter boots and get your summer shoes out. I like to store mine under my bed in plastic storage tubs.
You can get a 32-litre Wham plastic storage box at the Range for £4.99 each, or you can order a set of four Strata 30-litre Curve underbed storage boxes from Argos for £15.
SAVE: £4.96 when you buy four
STYLISH STORAGE: For a more stylish option, or if your bed doesn’t have space underneath, I like an ottoman.
There is an on-trend grey linen option for £20 at Wilko, but a similar version is just £16 at Dunelm. You can fill this with heavier shoes or even winter accessories such as scarves, hats, gloves and umbrellas.
SAVE: £4 at Dunelm
STOCK EXCHANGE: As the seasons change, it’s a great time to have a clear out. Not only will this make more room for new purchases but it will give you a chance to make a mental inventory of what clothes you have.
This saves on forking out for new items to replace forgotten ones. I like to take photos of what I pack away and store them in a filed-away album on my phone, in case I need a reminder.
