Job description: Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for a 70.1 transfer; OR

Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in NYS AND a minimum of four (4) years of experience providing nursing care in a general or governmental hospital, hospital clinic, nursing home or institutional setting such as a facility for alcohol and substance abuse treatment or for the mentally disabled as defined by NYS and Mental Hygiene Law or a correctional or court-adjudicated youth facility. Experience must have included at least one (1) year of nursing supervision or working in the capacity of a nurse administrator.

Duties Description Monitor the medical care for youth in the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) facilities.

Participate in the review and updating of OCFS policies, guidelines, and protocols for medical services for youth in the care and custody of the OCFS, DJJOY.

Supervise the facility-based Nurse Administrators within the DJJOY system of care.

Develop individualized plans to achieve goals for continuing education and growth for facility-based medical staff.

Perform site visits to each DJJOY facility located within the geographically-assigned area.

Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.

Additional Comments The filling of this position is pending Division of Budget approval.

Background Investigation Requirements:
1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees.
2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees.
3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
