Required
- Post-Secondary School Education in medical secretary/medical transcription or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong public relations/team/customer service communication skills.
- Must have demonstrated typing and other basic clerical skills including computer/word processing, e-mail and faxing experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Must be able to accept direction and work with minimum supervision.
- Must have satisfactory work performance.
- Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays
- Experience with transcription of medical orders.
Duties
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with all hospital staff and community partners in care in day to day operations involving patients and families.
- Functions as the unit’s receptionist by directing visitors and answering phones using AIDET process.
- Prepares charts and e-kardex for all new patients.
- Coordinates all patient admissions, transfers and discharges inclusive of chart compilation.
- Maintains patient privacy and confidentially according to PHIPA.
- Adds new chart sheets and files all reports on the patient’s charts.
- Transcribes Doctor’s orders from the Doctor’s order sheet ensuring that assigned nursing staff are aware of Doctor’s orders.
- Prepares requisitions/labels for tests and arranges consultations and appointments for patients either in-house or at other healthcare facilities.
- Arranges transportation for patient transfers and appointments to home or other facilities.
- Orders office supplies as necessary.
- Completes all typing/word processing for the Nursing Unit.
- Completes on line request for staff replacement working in collaboration with staffing office and PCL/in charge and updates daily assignment board.
- Prints off the daily assignment sheets and sends to staffing office with attention to ESP/payroll corrections.
- Participates and maintains occupational health and safety standards.
- Records and completes audits as assigned.
- Completes mandatory annual education.
