An exciting opportunity exists for a creative, energetic individual with excellent communication and teaching ability in the role of Clinical Educator in Nursing Professional, Scholarly Practice with the assignment of Renal Care. Drawing on solid clinical experience and foundational knowledge, the Clinical Educator will work in partnership with various members of the leadership team to promote excellence. The primary focus of this position will be the provision of educational support to nursing and support staff in the Renal Program. The clinical educator is a professional role model and resource person for Renal Program staff and other team members in supporting the development of education, policies, and procedures that promote evidence-based practice. Working in collaboration with clinical educator peers, leaders, and Professional Practice Specialists, key responsibilities of this role include: plan, facilitate, and evaluate the orientation program and support integration of new staff members to the team. The incumbent will also plan, facilitate and evaluate ongoing learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of staff members across the career span and LHSC; engage staff in quality improvement and evaluation; identify ongoing learning needs; assist in facilitating interdisciplinary professional development; and provide leadership to the program in educational initiatives. The incumbent will also support corporate and unit based initiatives (eg. Central Nursing Orientation and Accreditation).

Temporary Full-Time

Rate of Pay: $35.50 per hour – $51.22 per hour

Duration: 10 Months

Qualifications

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Master’s of Science in Nursing (MScN), or Masters of Nursing (MN) or related field required; will consider applicants who are currently enrolled and working towards this Master’s program
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
  • Minimum of four years recent experience in either a clinical or teaching role
  • Minimum two years recent, related renal dialysis nursing experience
  • Proficiency in computer and keyboarding skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, Outlook, and the Internet)
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge in Adult Education theories
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate ongoing learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of staff members across their career span
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice
  • Effective presentation skills; experience in e-learning preferred
  • Proven coaching skills, evaluating the development of staff and providing appropriate feedback
  • Strong project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate learner development and socialization and the ability to use assessment and evaluation strategies effectively
  • Demonstrated ongoing commitment to pursue Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively in scholarship
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal skills, team building and conflict management skills
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to network effectively with other disciplines
  • Highly developed critical thinking skills and ability to conceptualize and analyze problems
  • Demonstrated planning, evaluation, and organizational skills
  • Recognition, understanding of emotional intelligence and learning agility, particularly emotional self-awareness, assertiveness, optimism, stress tolerance and empathy
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to manage the complexities of change and transition
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide Immunization or proof of immunity reflective of Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) Guidelines. These include measles, mumps, rubella and varicella, and a tuberculosis skin test.
