- A Master’s degree in computer science or a technical discipline and at least ten years of experience are required-ten additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for the education requirement;
- Comprehensive knowledge of cloud systems architecture processes and trends;
- Extensive experience in the coordination of program and project leaders to identify requirements for system architecture and the ability to identify strategies for addressing requirements;
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills;
- Extensive experience analyzing requirements against fiscal, schedule, and performance issues;
- Extensive experience in taking program requirements and being able to create an architecture vision in high volume and high availability networks and systems;
- Extensive software development experience and thorough knowledge of a variety of programming languages and logic;
- Experience with software development cycles;
- Experience creating and conveying to team members the architectural vision for a program or project and responsibility for dictating design choices to software developers, including but not limited to platforms, coding and technical levels; and
- Experience in establishing and enforcing standards and practices and overseeing development and managing the full life cycle of the software development process.
Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) Information Technology Bureau (ITB) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join its team as a Systems Architect (SA). The ITB is responsible for all enterprise wide IT activities including on premise and cloud infrastructure and architecture, telecommunications, application development, practice technologies (eDiscovery), reengineering business processes, networks, outsourcing, and computer and auxiliary operations and support. The ITB provides for the sustained, efficient, and effective delivery of IT services ensuring that all OAG staff have access to the appropriate technologies, hardware, software, and a secure infrastructure necessary to complete their jobs, efficiently and productively. The Bureau continuously evaluates emerging technologies for applicability to business needs.
As an integral member of the ITB team, the SA will develop a high-level understanding of the complex systems governing and facilitating OAG business operations, make recommendations and implement changes to increase efficiency and support over all business objectives. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and based out of the ITB’s Capital Region office, the Systems Architect (SA) will collaborate with IT teams and key stakeholders to assess existing systems infrastructure. The SA will then determine how best to update, upgrade, and reorganize the OAG’s technology to create a lean, efficient systems architecture capable of supporting the Agency’s various projects and goals.
Duties and responsibilities of the SA will include but not be limited to the following:
- Periodically audit existing systems infrastructure and architecture to ensure an accurate, high-level understanding of present capabilities;
- Report to the CIO and key stakeholders regarding findings, making recommendations and providing clear roadmaps for successful changes;
- Collaborate with other IT professionals and Information Security Office (ISO) to develop systems solutions capable of supporting OAG/ITB goals;
- Oversee teams that implement changes in physical hardware and software, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies;
- Work with the Director of Business Solutions and the Director of Infrastructure and Operations on system analysis and application architecture for major initiatives;
- Work with the CISO on security system analysis and security architecture for major initiatives;
- Work with other IT teams to establish, design, and support an enterprise cloud architecture that provides the required capacity plans and supports the long-term strategic goals for enterprise cloud technologies within the OAG;
- Work with systems and database administrators to implement cloud architectures that utilize industry best practices; and
- Implement cloud technology policies and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets.
Additional Comments The salary for this position is $90,375-$111,316. The final salary will be determined after a complete evaluation of the selected candidate’s credentials.
