Job description: Basic Function:
Responsible for the daily supervision of Nursing and Resident Care Services staff and maintaining resident quality of life by maximizing the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of Residents.
Position Description:
Promote and maintain a positive public image.
- Good effective communication with family and residents. Partnership with supporting Community Partners.
- Increase public awareness and positive image of the home in the local community
Participate in admissions to the home. Client focus meetings. Seeking services from outside sources i.e. Alzheimer’s Society. Supervise and coordinate Human Resources for Resident Services.
- Ensure staff complement. Coordinate care levels. Ensure activities are in compliance with professional standards of practice and legislated requirements. Performance management. Provide feedback to staff, and assist staff in promoting profession growth. Promote and maintain productive labour relations. Training and development. Selection of staff. Health and safety. Infection control.
- Accountable for the delivery of resident care. Develop policy and procedures. Ensure competency of staff. Monitor the performance and conduct performance appraisals for staff. Provide consultation and advise to staff. Demonstrate and provide leadership and direction to staff.
Develop and implement strategies, plan goals and objectives for resident care.
- Assess resident needs. Implement appropriate documentation tools. Ensuring quality care is provided in compliance with legislated requirements.
- Review and revise policy and procedures of the home. Promote a consistent approach to care provisions. Use of outside resources, team conferences. Identify and correct gaps.
- To have knowledge and participate in the admission process.
Assist with the coordination and participation in continuous quality improvement, risk management program and the Accreditation Process.
- To provide quality service and effective delivery. To develop high quality of care.
- With critical self-evaluation using committee and teams. Using tools of AIM.
- Participate in the accreditation process if required.
Requirements
Knowledge and Experience: * Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Competence with the Ontario College of Nurses.
- Two (2) years’ leadership experience with long-term care.
- Courses specific to gerontology care, leadership, workplace safety management, Infection Prevention and Control and providing training.
Skills and Abilities: * Knowledge of legislation relating to the long-term care environment such as but not limited to: Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Act Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, , Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decision Act, Labour Relations Act, Employer Standards Act, etc.
- Working knowledge of RAI-MDS
- Continual upgrading to comply with current trends.
- Working knowledge of Point Click Care
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
