Job description: Modern Farmer is a digital magazine for people who have the desire to be closer to – and more educated about – the food on their plates. Blending hands-in-dirt service, soulful inspiration, and whip-smart reporting, Modern Farmer understands that a tomato is never just a tomato – it’s also a political, and deeply personal, statement about who we want to be and the world we hope to live in.
We’re looking to hire a reporter for our growing editorial team. The position is full-time and remote.
What you’ll do:
- Generate original story ideas (both daily news stories and longer pieces)
- Report and write stories about American agriculture and food
- Build a broad network of sources
- Pitch in with some social media/copy editing work
Qualifications
- A journalism degree
- At least three years of experience working in a newsroom or writing for a magazine
- The ability to produce clean copy on deadline
- The ability to work independently, but also part of a team remotely
- Experience covering food and/or agriculture is an asset
