The Education Commons will provide, in collaboration with major research and development initiatives where appropriate, the iterative design, implementation and evaluation of technological environments and information space in which the academic and research programs of OISE are carried out.

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Digital Products & System Architecture, the incumbent will be responsible for developing OISE’s cloud computing strategy and its implementation. This strategy will incorporate cloud adoption plans, cloud application design as well as cloud management and monitoring. Additional responsibilities include support for application architecture and deployment in cloud environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising clients and technical subject matter experts on best practice for documenting system requirements
  • Analyzing business and operational requirements to plan the implementation of new IT systems
  • Analyzing and configuring highly complex enterprise applications and services
  • Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide IT systems
  • Leading and planning IT projects
  • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function
  • Optimizing the architecture, design and integration of highly technical and complex enterprise level cloud computing systems

+Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Eight years or more recent experience providing support and technical governance, expertise related to virtualization and cloud architectures, deployment, and operations.
  • Experience advising on cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability). Experience designing, configuring, and optimizing use of cloud services and related network connection mechanisms to support an infrastructure and application services requirements.
  • Experience with converting the technical requirements of a project into the architecture and design that will guide the final product for clients.
  • Experience developing a Cloud Adoption Strategy including the Cloud Computing Reference Architecture and Roadmap. Experience supporting changes to development, testing, deployment, and configuration management processes consistent with a DevSecOps approach.
  • Experience developing solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services. Experience evaluating service designs and alternatives to achieve desired balance of performance, risk, and cost.
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting complex and technical systems and applications in a complex networked environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with IT security practices, current IT threats and vulnerabilities with senior-level competency.
  • Experience developing a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns. Experience deploying and administering applications in a cloud environment via Automation and Infra-as-Code.
  • Experience with the following: integrationwith SSO providers like Active Directory and Azure AD; Cloud Cost Optimization and Security tools; utilizing the TCO calculator to help project forecasted costs; Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Databricks; creating virtual machines and secure virtual networks and subnets; git repositories and release pipelines; ARM templates; Python; PowerShell; and data engineering and database optimization.
  • Experience directly supervising employees required. Experience leading and planning IT projects.
  • Strong architectural design skills through strong experience in using service and hosting solutions such as private/public cloud IaaS, PaaS and SaaS platforms. Knowledge of cloud security controls including tenant isolation, encryption at rest, encryption in transit, key management, vulnerability assessments, application firewalls. Experience building and supporting mission critical technology components with DR capabilities.
  • Excellent Azure Cloud security design and management skills. Possess in-depth knowledge of Azure infrastructure operations approaches and principles.
  • Experience with multi-tier system and service design and development. Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, DSC, Puppet, Chef, Salt or others. Experience with token-based authentication ((SAML/OAuth/OIDC/Azure B2C), MFA, and RBAC).
  • Knowledge and understanding of software development full lifecycle methodologies, patterns, frameworks, libraries and tools in order to provide guidance to developers. Demonstrated experience working with relational, graph and/or unstructured data technologies such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, HD Insights, Hadoop, MongoDB, MySQL, Couchbase.
  • Expert skills with programming and scripting languages such as JavaScript, PowerShell, Bash, SQL, .NET, Java, Python, PHP, Ruby, PERL, C++; as well as data ingestion technologies or standards such as SFTP/FTP, AS2, Azure Data Factory, SSIS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills at both a technical and business level, able to build and foster positive relationships with highly dispersed and dynamic teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills. Strong planning and project management skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to permit simultaneous action on many tasks, many of which will demand timely completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skill with demonstrated training and presentation skills. Strong negotiation and influence skills, well versed as a change agent and in stakeholder relationship management.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines. Agile, with demonstrated ability to quickly learn, understand and apply new technologies.
