Job description: The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual interested in a full-time, temporary (6 months) Social Worker 2 position within the Metro Addiction Assessment Referral Service (MAARS). MAARS is an outpatient assessment and referral service within CAMH which offers a psychosocial addiction/concurrent disorders assessment aimed at determining a client’s suitability for referral to a community-based Addiction service, or to a CAMH-specific treatment service. MAARS is a non-crisis service designed to provide support to clients who are living in the 416 area code, who are seeking access to addiction/concurrent mental health services anywhere in Toronto and throughout the province.
Reporting to the Manager of MAARS, the successful candidate will work with clients who have moderate to severe substance-related problems and who may also have concurrent mental health issues. The successful candidate will conduct individual screening and assessment, group information/assessment sessions, treatment readiness groups and consultations with family members/community supports, and provide referrals and limited follow-up for clients with substance use difficulties who may also present with multiple other needs, including but not limited to: crisis, housing, income supports, legal, and particularly concurrent disorders. The incumbent will be able to provide limited support to community agencies through training and consultation. Candidates must be capable of providing supervision of Masters of Social Work students, contributing to the development of best practices unique to the social work field and also teaching to other professionals. The incumbent will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, program development, service provider relationship building, capacity building activities and supervision of undergraduate/graduate students and volunteers. Other related duties may be assigned. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This role will require evening hours. This position is located at 60 White Squirrel Way, although traveling to other locations both within CAMH and in the community may be required.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Masters of Social Work degree and be registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, supported by 3 years of clinical experience with individuals with substance use and concurrent disorders. You must be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with faculties of Social Work that have affiliation agreements with CAMH. Demonstrated skills and experience in substance abuse clinical assessment, counselling, group therapy, psychoeducational groups, clinical documentation and case management are required. Experience with substance use interventions such as Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Substance Psycho-education and Overdose Identification and Withdrawal Risk Identification are required; training in same are assets. Preference will be given to applicants with certification and experience in administering the provincial Admission and Discharge Assessment Tool, with preference given to those with same in GAIN-ON-MI; certification in progress is considered an asset. You will have knowledge and skills related to concurrent disorders, trauma-informed care, brief treatment, harm reduction, and de-escalation. Preference will be given to those who possess a strong knowledge of and ability to apply principles of risk management and crisis intervention. You have a demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour and possess effective decision making and problem solving skills in dealing with clients. A comprehensive knowledge of community substance use resources/referral sources, both in Metro Toronto and the province of Ontario is essential, as is a thorough understanding of the various models of treatment utilized throughout the province. The ability to provide culturally competent service to clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds is essential. You will also possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to work independently and within a team, have the ability to communicate effectively, have strong writing and presentation skills, be able to meet project deadlines, and have excellent computer skills and knowledge of technology to enhance communication and learning. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Salary Range: $35.42 – $47.73 per hour
