Job description: The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual interested in a full-time, permanent Social Worker 2 position within the Metro Addiction Assessment Referral Service (MAARS). MAARS is an outpatient assessment and referral service within CAMH which offers a psychosocial addiction/concurrent disorders assessment aimed at determining a client’s suitability for referral to a community-based Addiction service, or to a CAMH-specific treatment service. MAARS is a non-crisis service designed to provide support to clients who are living in Toronto, who are seeking access to addiction/concurrent mental health services anywhere in Toronto or throughout the province.

Reporting to the Manager of MAARS, the successful candidate will utilize a trauma informed approach to work with clients who have moderate to severe substance-related problems and likely concurrent mental health issues and will understand that this position is an opportunity to engage clients on behalf of the treatment system, capitalize on motivation and instill hope Responsibilities will include: conducting individual screening and thorough psycho-social assessments, utilizing a thorough knowledge of the addiction treatment and related systems to make referrals to appropriate resources/services, conducting group-based orientation/information and screening sessions, , ,facilitating treatment readiness groups and engaging in consultations with family members/community supports. Clients will present with substance use difficulties/concurrent disorders and often will also be experiencing multiple other needs including but not limited to: crisis support, housing, income supports, legal involvement and medical needs, and some will require limited follow-up support. The incumbent will be able to provide limited support to community agencies through training, consultation and networking. The position will require thorough electronic documentation. Candidates must be be capable of providing supervision of Masters of Social Work students, as well as contribute to the development of best practices, participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, program development, capacity building, and engage in knowledge exchange with other professionals. The incumbent will be able to work successfully in an anti-oppressive framework with clients from diverse populations; Other related duties may be assigned. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This role will require some evening hours.

This position is located at 60 White Squirrel Way, although traveling to other locations both within CAMH and in the community may be required.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Masters of Social Work degree and be registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, preferably with 3 years of clinical experience with individuals with substance use and concurrent disorders. You must be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with faculties of Social Work that have affiliation agreements with CAMH. Demonstrated skills and experience in substance abuse clinical assessment, trauma-informed care, client centred care, clinical risk identification and management (suicide risk assessment, overdose risk assessment, withdrawal risk assessment, child protection risk) counselling, group therapy, psychoeducational groups, clinical documentation and case management/system navigation are required.

Experience with substance use interventions such as Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Substance-related psycho-education and is required; training in same are assets. Preference will be given to applicants with certification and experience in administering the provincial Staged Screening and Assessment Tool: GAIN-ON-MI; certification in progress is considered an asset. You will have knowledge and skills related to concurrent disorders, trauma-informed care, brief treatment, harm reduction, and de-escalation. Preference will be given to those who possess a strong knowledge of and ability to apply principles of risk management and crisis intervention. You have a demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour and possess effective decision making and problem solving skills in dealing with clients. A comprehensive knowledge of community substance use resources/referral sources, both in Metro Toronto and the province of Ontario is essential, as is a thorough understanding of the various models of treatment utilized throughout the province. The ability to provide culturally competent service to clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds is essential. You will also possess strong interpersonal skills, be able to work independently and within a team, have the ability to communicate effectively, have strong writing and presentation skills, be able to meet project deadlines, and have excellent computer skills and knowledge of technology to enhance communication and learning. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.

Salary Range: $36.04 – $48.57 per hour
