Etsy is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to join our Recommendations team.

About the Team
Our teams are responsible for recommendations at Etsy. We are part of the Recommendation initiative – a cross-functional group of product engineers, machine learning data scientists, product managers, designers, user researchers, and analysts. The initiative is responsible for creating engaging experiences maximizing state-of-the-art machine learning across our buyer journey that help over 45 million customers discover the right items. With over 60 million items offered by 2.7 million sellers, the group brings value to our buyers, sellers, and Etsy by balancing e-commerce best practices with the exciting challenges posed by operating at scale.
In this role, you will collaborate closely across product and foundational teams to identify, prioritize, and deliver experiences and high-quality recommendations across all Etsy platforms. You will lead a talented team of engineers on all of these projects.

This is a full-time role located in our San Francisco, CA or Brooklyn, NY offices once they reopen, and will work closely with our Director of Engineering. We also welcome applications from those working remotely across the US.
About the Role
Lead teams to build great products. At Etsy, engineering managers have a limited role in the hands-on process of building software, but a very large role in orchestrating and coaching engineers to achieve results together.
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering and Data Science to ensure that your team is delivering value for our individual contributors.
Participate in defining and achieving Objectives and Key Results for your team.
Define the roadmap and supervise its execution. You will connect and coordinate business initiatives and team priorities.
Participate in the end-to-end recruiting process, hiring, and on-boarding exceptional engineering talent.
Set clear expectations for team members and foster a culture of learning.
You will serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate for the engineers and engineering managers on your team.
Qualifications
About You
At least, 3+ years of work experience as a direct people manager supervising senior engineers and technical leads.
5+ years of overall technical experience, including design and implementation of data-centric or ML-focussed consumer-facing products.
Broad knowledge of machine learning lifecycle (e.g. feature & model selection, training, optimization) and learning-to-rank problems.
Experience in managing agile ceremonies and optimizing for efficiency.
Experience gathering feedback from customers to inform engineering prioritization.
Experience delivering projects from planning through delivery.
An established track record of using well honed communications & active listening skills to foster a collaborative culture both within, and across teams
Minimum requirements
MS/PhD in Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience.
Proven industry experience in driving product experiences that combine UX and machine learning.
Experience in leading remote teams is a plus (but not required).
