Job Description:
Reporting to the Director, Drug Reviews and Pharmaceutical Negotiations, the Senior Clinical Pharmacist will be an active member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Product Development team within Group Benefits. This role is responsible for reviewing new drugs in development and new indications for existing drugs coming onto the Canadian market with a view of analyzing and communicating the potential impact to the Sun Life Group Benefits block of business prior to the market availability of the drug and ensure appropriate clinical criteria are in place for drugs eligible under Sun Life’s drug plans.
The Senior Clinical Pharmacist will also be involved in negotiations with drug manufacturers and will represent Sun Life externally in the private payer market
Main Accountabilities:
Be accountable for the Sun Life internal clinical drug review process, which includes analyzing and understanding the potential impact of new drugs coming to market, and critical appraisal of the effectiveness of the drugs, and establishing prior authorization criteria for high-cost drugs
Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the understanding of new drugs coming to market, evolving drug therapies and clinical guidelines
Act as a liaison with pharmaceutical manufacturers
Participate in meetings and in the strategic and tactical planning of the Pharma Product team, as needed
Provide pharma related support (questions, clients’ requests) to Business Development, Operations, and other internal stakeholders
Required Competencies:
Bilingualism (English and French)
Degree in pharmacy (B.Pharm., Pharm.D., or other), licensed to practice in Canada
Experience in performing drug reviews
Strong project management skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to translate technical details into commonplace understanding
Demonstrates accountability and leadership, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Assets:
Exposure to the complexities of drug plan benefits, formulary management and/or health technology assessments
Experience with specialty drugs, oncology drugs, or drugs for rare diseases
Exposure to budget impact and pharmacoeconomic analyses
Unique Clause:

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
