Summary Description of Role

An opportunity for a motivated and dynamic individual to take on a brand-new role within the Global Procurement function in one of our highest priority areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development and rollout of a new Socially Responsible Procurement Framework. Ensuring that Pearson works exclusively with suppliers who support and enhance our social and environmental values is a priority. Our framework focuses on 4 key areas: Carbon Emissions, Modern Slavery, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Ethical Production.

Key responsibilities will include refining metrics, driving policies and working collaboratively with suppliers to look for areas of opportunity to drive social and environmental benefit.

Scope

This role reports to the Supplier Relationship and ESG Manager and affords the candidate the opportunity to work with a wide variety of stakeholders across the organisation, and directly with external suppliers. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring procurement policies and practices support the framework, refining the KPI’s and metrics required to drive improvement, and monitoring supplier performance and maturity – developing targeted action plans where required.

Principal Accountabilities

Analysis of Procurement’s commercial and supplier governance policies and practices for alignment to the framework and updating where required

Working closely with internal sustainability teams, employee resource groups and senior leadership to ensure internal/external alignment

Developing reporting on key monthly/quarterly metrics for senior leadership

Managing supplier performance and developing targeted action plans, enabled in part by third-party assessments and educational resources

Performing detailed research to monitor key industry trends, and reporting findings

Supporting the rollout of a third-party ratings platform to assess all Tier 1 suppliers

Analysing global, regional, and internal standards to support development of viable supplier targets and actions that contribute to achieving Pearson’s Sustainable Business Plan

Qualifications

Passion for sustainability and ESG

Previous experience in a corporate environment (internship/placement)

Experience of using software solutions
