Job Summary

The Research Coordinator will work on a variety of projects within the Men’s Health Research (MHR) program. MHR develops, implements, and formally evaluates community-based and e-health interventions addressing men’s depression and suicide, psychosocial prostate cancer care, and tobacco reduction and smoking cessation in fathers and men.

The Research Coordinator is directly responsible for the management and coordination for all MHR research projects, including data management and analysis (both quantitative and qualitative), organizing team meetings, preparing manuscripts, reports, and developing and submitting research proposals, grants, and associated documents.

The Research Coordinator will work virtually and/or be based in the MHR program unit (http://menshealthresearch.ubc.ca/) at the School of Nursing in Vancouver, BC.

Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator directly reports to the Principal Investigator, Dr. John Oliffe. The Research Coordinator collaborates and is responsible for communications with various team members based in Vancouver and Melbourne including project collaborators and health professionals. Communicate regularly with the 5+ MHR staff and research team members who are based at various health care agencies.

Work Performed

Data Management and Analysis:

  • Oversee data management, in consultation with the Principal Investigator
  • Participates in the conceptual analysis and interpretation of data in a lead role to generate knowledge, and prepare research findings for dissemination to a variety of audiences.
  • Identifies the theoretical linkages based on conceptual analysis of data.
  • Conducts qualitative and quantitative analyses of data.

Project Management:

  • Manages research grant application activities, including preparing grant application packages, updating investigators’ CVs, and collecting required documents from investigators
  • Manages and coordinates the communication for MHR funded projects
  • Responsible for orientation and onboarding for all incoming MHR staff and researchers and, where applicable, the training of all staff involved in study procedures
  • Coordinates regular updates and reports to funding partners
  • Plans and organizes research team meetings, attending meetings to define strategy, goals, and scope of research projects
  • Participates in the submission and update of ethics applications and monitor research ethics procedures to be coordinated with the UBC Behavioural Ethics Review Board
  • Responsible for the development and setup of files, data tracking, and storage procedures and policies
  • Prepares and monitors budget and provide forecasting
  • Leads/directs updating MHR’s social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube
  • Directs website content development
  • Design and development of project posters, postcards, and digital media
  • Drafts manuscripts and submit to journals for review and publication
  • Ensure timely notification to Principal Investigators of issues or problems
  • Assists in planning and coordinating staffing of research studies
  • Leads the financial reporting and reconciling of project budgets and expenditures on Workday
  • Coordinates and supervises daily activities of all research support staff, as appropriate

Knowledge Translation and Exchange:

  • Promotes research capacity building within the team and with collaborators
  • Takes a lead in conducting, compiling, and synthesizing literature searches for research papers and reports
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret data reports at regular intervals to ensure research objectives are being met
  • Responsible for writing and preparation of research reports and proposals, presentations, and manuscripts for publication.
  • Participate in the preparation of research proposals that build on the current research program.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Principal Investigator will monitor the work of the incumbent. Errors or incorrect decisions could potentially result in delays in completing the project or seriously compromise the quality of the research.

Supervision Received
The Research Coordinator reports to the MHR Principal Investigator, Dr. John Oliffe. Work is reviewed periodically by the PI to assess the scope of work performed and the achievement of defined goals and key performance indicators.

Supervision Given
The Research Coordinator will supervise the day-to-day activities of any research support staff as appropriate to the position.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in health or social sciences preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of skills and knowledge in research management including management of research budgets preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with literature on the relevance of the social sciences to men’s mental health, research and theories, and literature on critical inquiry.
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in research writing and analysis.
  • Education/training and experience in quantitative research methods, multivariate statistical analysis, and qualitative research methods and data analysis.
  • Education/training and experience with using data analysis software including NVivo and SPSS.
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro) or equivalent programs for video, sound, and image editing would be an asset.
  • Ability to work both independently and within an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the willingness to work closely with members of a research team to ensure problems are resolved quickly and appropriately.
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality, tact, and discretion. Computer skills required.

Expected salary: $4596.75 – 6621.58 per month
