Responsibilities
The IV Technician is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the provision of pharmaceutical services such as profiling, labeling and preparation of medications for oral, rectal, topical and injectable use; mixing IV admixture solutions as required using aseptic technique in the Laminar Air Flow hood. Also applies labels to medications and performs other related duties. Can use the computer for billing of requisitions, floor stock orders and individual patient medications when not directly billed through order entry. Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel and Answers the phone to assist the Pharmacist. Has a working knowledge of the computer system (Medi-Tech). Generates cassette fill lists, patient labels, MAR labels, and update labels. Fills Patient Unit Dose Cassettes in the Pharmacy. Prepares the Controlled Substances that are requested from the nursing units for the pharmacist to dispense. (Delivers them on the appropriate days). Restocks the medication dispensing areas and assists in the maintenance of levels of inventory in the Department of the Pharmacy. Informs the pharmacy purchasing coordinator when the stock appears to be running low.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred. A minimum of one year hospital Pharmacy experience and gradate of a certified pharmacy technician program required. PTCB Certification Demonstrated math skills and strong communication skills along with solid computer knowledge of pharmacy and hospital database systems along with MS Office. Knowledge of the nomenclature of the Pharmacy. Demonstrates Skills in Math & English that are considered acceptable by the Director of Pharmacy. Must have excellent communication skills in English.
Expected salary: $21214 per year
