Job Summary:
Specifically, the EDI Project Officer will provide research and operational support to develop and implement communications plans, context-specific training modules, institutional self-assessments, and a record keeping and progress monitoring system to ensure that steady progress towards achieving Ontario Tech’s Canada Research Chairs (CRC) EDI Action Plan “Being Counted and Considered at Ontario Tech University” and the Dimensions Charter.
Nature of Work:
The project coordinator will support the Director for Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Engagement (EDI) in their leadership and coordination of campus-wide research, policy, planning and education related to EDI.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- EDI project coordinator will conduct research to support the development and launching of a multi-year EDI plan for Ontario Tech that is in line with it’s CRC EDI Action Plan and the Dimensions Charter.
- Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of the CRC EDI Action Plan, Dimensions Charter and other associated EDI components in research. Supporting an internal work-plan for the development of the university-wide EDI Strategic Plan by communicating and coordinating and liaising with the relevant committees, campus offices, faculties and departments to track timelines and deliverables.
- Coordinating and facilitating the contracted Employment Systems Review of Ontario Tech University and assisting with the implementation of any outcomes. In addition, the position will support any other EDI related projects. Supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive university wide Self-ID and climate surveys and reporting in partnership with key internal stakeholders.
- Supporting the coordination and the development and pilot of a faculty/researcher mentorship program for equity seeking groups, specifically, for womxn, racialized minorities, LGBTQ2S+, differently abled and indigenous peoples.
- 40% of coordination duties will be dedicated to the support of the Womxn in Research Council development and launch.
- Under the guidance of the Director of EDI, the project coordinator will support an engagement and change management strategy in partnership with the Indigenous Education and Cultural Services, External Relations, Office of Research Services, HR and Student Life to encourage campus participation in various EDI programs.
- The EDI project coordinator will partner with External Relations, specifically the Events, Marketing, Communications and Web Development teams to launch and maintain a centralized online EDI hub/microsite as well as coordinate EDI marketing, communication and social media strategies.
Required Skills
- Understanding of systems of oppression, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
- Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills.
- Excellent research, writing, listening, facilitation and presentations skills.
- Creating and managing online and social media content
Education
- Completion of a Post-Secondary/College/University Program of Three Academic Years or Equivalent.
- Bachelors degree in any area related to Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Education, Equity and Social Justice, Social Work, Gender/Feminist Studies, Race Studies, Political Studies, Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related areas.
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required Required Experience
Minimum Three to Five years cumulative paid or volunteer work roles at any level which demonstrate:
- Experience and/training in project, program, event coordination or management.
- Experience in coordinating and supporting complex, enterprise wide projects.
- Experience with synthesizing large bodies of information and transforming it into coherent, time-bound work-plans and communication.
- Experience in prioritizing and advocating for the needs and accommodation requirements of equity seeking groups.
- Effectiveness at demonstrating empathy, listening for understanding, and facilitating difficult conversations.
- Experience with training and education.
