Job Summary:

Ontario Tech University is seeking an energetic individual with advanced data management and programming skills to support the university’s institutional research agenda.

Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Director, Office of Institutional Research and Analysis the incumbent will be responsible for working with stakeholders to standardize, collect and report on a wide range of data on university activities. The position will produce professional quality, accurate, reliable, timely and user-friendly reports.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Produce professional quality, well-written publications for internal and external distribution to various stakeholders for decision making;
  • Contribute to the identification and analysis of metrics for the Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA);
  • Planning, designing and programming standard and ad-hoc data reports, and writing reports using BI reporting and data visualization tools;
  • Produce, maintain and update admission and registration tracking reports, confirmation analysis, along with official Day 1/10 reporting;
  • Responding to data requests from internal and external stakeholders and compiling reports;
  • Assisting with the review of data provided for external reporting by other units to assure consistency in definitions and reporting assumptions;
  • Aid in the development of data information references for senior management;
  • Contribute to institutional research initiatives by performing or advising on appropriate research strategies;
  • Leading the updates to the University Fact Book, Common University Data Ontario, and other institutional key performance indicators;
  • Ability to utilize various data sources; student, human resources, finance in order to produce robust and valuable reports for stakeholders as well as assist in integrated planning activities;
  • Undertake various institutional research projects as assigned by the Director, Office of Institutional Research and Analysis.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in database, spreadsheet and statistical software/systems manipulating large amounts of data is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in data base techniques such as SQL as well as understand the capabilities and constraints of the information technology environment.
  • Experience with an integrated enterprise management software system (Cognos BI) is preferred, as is experience in a post-secondary institution.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing and presentation skills, effective interpersonal skills, discretion, tact and diplomacy.
  • Required to have experience starting a project and seeing it through to completion.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required; however, advanced degrees are considered an asset.
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required Required Experience
  • Over 3 years and including 5 years’ experience in an area related to data management, computer programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
