Job description: Join the Trocaire community as a Clinical Instructor and help make a difference in students’ lives! This part-time position allows you to develop and invest in future nurses and pays $50.00 per hour for MSN Clinical Instructors.
Position Overview:
The goal of clinical education experiences at Trocaire College is to provide nursing students with multiple applied opportunities for demonstrating and integrating safe and professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes while engaged with a variety of patients and health care professionals. These learning experiences occur under the supervision and mentorship of clinical faculty.
The Clinical Instructor has responsibility for teaching primarily in the clinical and laboratory settings and also in the classroom; incorporates evidence-based practice into teaching activities. This role requires demonstrated knowledge, competence and experience in a specialty area of practice as a direct care provider and clinical educator. The role requires excellent organizational, written and oral interpersonal communication skills.
Responsibilities: * Supervising care provided by a group of students (usually 8 students in a group) while they complete their clinical rotation in your area of specialty.
- Coordinating with the clinical site to make student patient assignments.
- Teaching students how to perform duties in the clinical site and answering their questions.
- Evaluates students clinical and lab performance using the designated tools for the course.
- Follows program procedure for lab and clinical remediation.
- Orients student to the clinical area.
- Distributes assignment schedule/calendar, a list of the competencies, required supplies (when working in the nursing labs.
- Prepares for clinical and lab classes by selecting appropriate learning experiences as evidenced by the following: updating instructional materials such as handouts and using a variety of learning modalities including instructional technology to augment instruction.
- Follows course content, which is current, well organized, and related to course objectives and to student’s previous learning.
- Submits/updates all paperwork and required reports on time including seven day, mid-term, and final grade rosters. Maintains credentials, licensure, and certifications required for teaching and for the profession.
- Maintains open communication with the Course Coordinator and clinical facility staff.
- Communicates students’ clinical and lab progress, concerns, and absences to the Course Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Returns clinical assignment paperwork to students in a timely manner with constructive comments.
- Adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) that protects the privacy of student educational records.
- Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (also known as HIPAA Privacy Rule).
Required
- MSN Degree
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in good standing in New York
- Current BLS Certification
- Experience in a nursing practice role
- Documented effectiveness in collaboration and communication
- Ability to effectively manage details and problem solve in a complex environment
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so at
Preferred
- Experience in higher education including teaching, simulation instruction, or assessment
- Experience in a clinical teaching role
