Working closing with the Nurse Practitioner currently working in the Program for Eating Disorders, the Primary Care/Mental Health Specialist Nurse Practitioner works as a member of an interprofessional team, utilizing her/his training to provide a range of primary care/mental health services within the scope of her/his practice and expertise. Although this role will have a strong focus in the outpatient setting within our program, supporting the intake process of our outpatient program, the Nurse Practitioner will work in all the clinical settings – our inpatient, day hospital, and ACT-like outpatient team, performing assessments, making diagnoses, and prescribing laboratory tests, investigations and drugs as appropriate. The Nurse Practitioner will work closely with the program psychiatrists, psychologists and nurses to ensure seamless delivery of medical care. Other responsibilities include: playing a leadership role and performing quality improvement and administrative responsibilities; participating in policy and procedure development; performing research activities; delivering, coordinating and participating in education and professional development activities/programs; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession; acting as a resource and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a Master’s Degree Program in Nursing
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) Adult or Primary Care certificate complete or pending
- Registered Nurse (EC) certification complete or pending
- Three to five years nursing experience in an acute treatment center
- Experience in nursing research methodology
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
- Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Experience with mental health care an asset
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal and customer services skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills
- Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Program planning and evaluation methodology skills
- Commitment to collaborative practice
