Position Summary:
The Faculty of Music, Wilfrid Laurier University, requires part-time contract teaching faculty (CTF) to teach the course listed below in the Fall Term 2021 to be taught remotely. Following is a brief description of the course to indicate the content and level of difficulty. We would be happy to provide additional information that may be required.
MU266 B Remote – Theory III – 0.5 Credit
MU266 is the third course of a four-course sequence in common-practice harmony and Classical form. MU266 will reinforce the diatonic frame for Phrase Model and Sequential progressions, and introduce chromatic sequences, modulation, mixture, chromatic pre-dominant harmonies (Neapolitan, Augmented 6ths), enharmonic reinterpretation, and chromatic dominant functions. MU266 will introduce techniques of proportional deviation with a phrase, compound themes and binary forms. The course involves part-writing and analysis. Students in MU266 will have two semesters’ background with Steve Laitz’ The Complete Musician, and one semester background with William Caplin’s Classical Form. Experience teaching with these specific approaches will be considered an asset.

Courses created specifically for online instruction have been collaboratively designed by a content expert (normally a faculty member) and an instructional designer and digital media and educational technology specialists. Online course development is guided by instructional design strategies and makes use of pedagogically led technology. Online courses are intentionally developed for instructors and students to be separated by space (location) and/or time (often both).
Remote instruction, as the term is used here, uses technology-enabled tools and software to facilitate course delivery when in-person instruction is not possible in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Remote” instruction is not directly comparable to “online course” instruction. The difference is not in the quality of the content, but in the design of content delivery.
