Salary Range: $102,087 – $121,739 – Band 10
Location: Information Technology, New Street Education Centre
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, 12 months/year

Position Summary:
Reporting to the General Manager, Information Services, the Manager of System Operations is responsible for providing leadership and supervision for staff assigned within specific portfolios for the information services teams, including hardware, software, infrastructure, application development, student information systems and security. The Manager, System Operations is responsible for providing strategic vision while overseeing the planning, operations and delivery of information technology services for the board. This position is also responsible for managing information technology initiatives/projects spanning multiple departments and schools and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to ensure the solutions meet the needs and are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic direction and planning
Investigates and assesses new technologies, identifying benefits and costs associated estimating return on investment
Consults with other departments/schools and stakeholders to develop a cross-organization approach and standards for streamlining processes
Provides input and recommendations to support Ministry requirements/initiatives to ensure compliance and mitigate impacts to the Board and staff
Creates reports and implementation strategies recommending directions for the Board determined through research and consultation
provides input and recommendations to the Board’s Multi-Year plan and plan to achieve identified targets
Participates in the development of plans for Proof of Concept and/or Pilot programs relating to technology and/or process changes that technology will support
Reviews and recommends budget expenditures, ensure the Board’s interests and vendor agreements are being respected
Establishes network with colleagues, represents the Board at provincial user groups/meetings and organizations, and acts as an ambassador for the Board
Participates in audits to ensure compliance with policies, standards and regulations
Partner with vendors to ensure services are delivered in accordance with contractual requirement and agreed service levels
Project Management
Recommends, creates and manages project budgets
Creates project plans
Leads cross department/Board project teams, manages and assigns responsibilities
Liaises with project specific vendors and contracts
Business analysis of requirements and identification of system needs
Prepares and participates in reporting project status to Senior Admin Team and Board
Supervision of Staff
Provides guidance and counselling of staff for both personal growth and day to day decision making
Performs Goal setting and conducts Growth & Appraisal processes
Provides directions for staff in tasks assigned, preventive maintenance or emergency situations
Mentors, coaches and motivates the information services team
Provides leadership development opportunities by facilitating relevant training and professional learning opportunities for staff
Manages staff resources to allow for the efficient and effective resolution of technical problems that impact the system in order to minimize adverse impacts on students and staff
Security and maintenance for Board Information Technology, Data and Account Management
Ensures processes are in place for ongoing monitoring of hardware and software ensuring maximum up time
Monitors security and maintenance looking for issues and opportunities to enhance/resolve issues
Reviews current business processes to identity new opportunities to automate and improve on existing solutions
Works with vendors of hosted solutions to ensure security compliance and Boards’ data is protected
Reviews and identifies access requirements with functional leads, automates access to Board software for staff and students where possible and continue to investigate/implement solutions where automation cannot be utilized
Reviews and implements cyber security strategies
Ensures compliance of the Board’s information systems and IT infrastructure with current security policies, standards and procedures
Develops and implements corporate wide information security, guidelines and procedures and security awareness program
Customer Service/Support and Resolution
Effectively provides leadership for the resolution of matters in a timely/fashion to ensure the continuous operation of technological systems within the Board
Provides advanced technical support and troubleshooting to staff when situations arise that are not immediately resolved
Identification of support trends and building of plans to resolve the issue permanently
Develops suitable solutions for end user support
Identifies measurable targets to continually improve customer service to end users
Creates and provides technical training to staff on new and existing technologies
Presents on best practices, new and existing technologies or procedures, future directions – modifying the presentation based on audience
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in information technology or related field
Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in managing information technology projects and teams
Experience within a school board environment with direct supervision of staff preferred
Project Management Course – Certified training
Leadership/Management Training Program
Certificate in Information and Communication Technology Management (OASBO) an asset
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) an asset
IT Project Management and leadership skills
Strong analytical, facilitation and problem solving skills
Customer Relations in a service environment
Ability to translate complex technology concepts
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Enterprise level firewall, WiFi, routing and switching configuration
Microsoft and Linux OS configuration and maintenance
Effective financial literacy skills an asset
