Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Program Director, Oncology Program, the Manager, Cancer Planning & Projects is an integral member of THP’s patient care services’ leadership team. The manager works collaboratively with staff, physicians and other leaders in the program and across patient care services to develop and lead program improvement and development activities, create innovative business solutions that embed evidence-based clinical practices, and lead inter-professional teams to advance quality and improve access through standardization, integration of cancer services and service delivery model, and through partnerships (internal and external to the hospital) and across the region.
The Oncology Program at THP are committed to delivering a new kind of oncology care for a healthier community, which includes an integrated medical model of care, a standardized and integrated cancer service delivery model across the organization providing exceptional compassionate care for people impacted by cancer and safe, timely and equitable access to coordinated cancer care. Together we will create high quality services that support people at each transition across the cancer journey, and effectively linking with other THP clinical programs (including Laboratory Medicine & Genetics, Diagnostic Imaging, Pharmacy, Surgery, Palliative Care), THP enabling services and both Out of Hospital Premises Screening Centres and Primary care. The role will ultimately support patients across the entire region as we work to address cancer recovery and capacity challenges. Together we will improve cancer care in our region.

What you’ll do in the first year:
Work closely with our Executive Lead for clinical service recovery of Oncology Recovery Services & Planning and the Oncology Leadership team to stabilize, plan and initiate implementation of: * The Medical Oncology Model of Care and
- Integration of the Cancer Service Delivery Model (Inpatient and outpatient)
improving quality of care and creating capacity for cancer care services.
And ongoing:
As part of the team at the Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre this role will support the Oncology Program and Regional Cancer Program supporting local and regional initiatives related to quality cancer improvement and whole person patient-centred program development activities, creation of innovative business solutions that embed evidence-based clinical practices and processes, and supporting hospital teams to advance quality and improve access to care through planning and partnership. This role may expand to include expanded operational oversight depending on operational need and projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Oncology Program and Patient Care Services leadership, lead program development, process and quality improvement and evaluation.
- Be the point person for connecting and managing the oncology recovery plan, including supporting multiple work streams and working groups.
- Work with the cross functional interdisciplinary teams to ensure the provision of effective, efficient, and high quality inpatient and outpatient oncology services.
- Provide leadership with a focus on quality improvement, analysis and performance.
- In consultation/collaboration with the program leadership defines and leads the implementation of organizational supports and structures required to deliver care.
- Develop and implement innovative action plans to achieve required performance targets.
- Support and facilitate a care delivery model that enhances patient centred care, professional practice, and accountability.
- Ensure that patient experience is embedded in the service planning and implementation.
- Support the change management through evidence-based frameworks and processes.
- Develop and maintain effective linkages and coordinates services with other programs, enabling services/departments and regional partners.
- Actively participate in committees and meetings to ensure coordination of services.
- Lead with a focus on understanding key factors affecting health equity and the social determinants of health.
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in a health-related field preferred.
- Master’s degree in a health or business related field (or evidence of working towards) required.
- 3-5 years of formal people/project leadership experience, and at least 5 years of relevant healthcare experience.
- Clinical oncology knowledge strongly preferred.
- Experience in leading large scale change initiatives strongly preferred.
- Strong business management skills (strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation and analytics).
- Strong skills and training in project management.
- Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
- Demonstrated leadership, excellent communication, critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated collaboration and influencing skills in a complex, high volume, fast paced environment.
- Ability to build effective working relations with a variety of stakeholders and teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation creation/delivery skills.
