Position Summary:
The Orillia Public Library is seeking an energetic, innovative, customer service-oriented team player with exceptional technical skills to fill a full-time position in the Information Services Department. Qualified candidates will have a Library Technician’s diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Under the supervision of the Director of Information Services, the incumbent will be responsible for the delivery of reference and readers’ advisory services, electronic resources and public technology. This position will also manage and develop the Local History collection. The incumbent will work seventy-three hours bi-weekly with some Saturday, Sunday and evening hours required.
Qualifications:
- Library Technician diploma from a recognized school, or the equivalent combination of education and experience • Ability to work effectively with customers of all ages and from a wide variety of cultural, economic, social and educational backgrounds
- Excellent pro-active customer service and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated successful experience in a public library preferred
- Demonstrated ability to provide superior information service to a wide range of customers in a busy automated environment, including instruction and assistance in the use of new technologies, such as tablets, smartphones and eReaders
- Knowledge of best archival practices, including the handling and preservation of materials preferred
- Interest in local history and genealogy and ability to build relationships with community groups preferred
- Demonstrated ability to interact pleasantly and courteously with the public and staff, and to promote a harmonious workplace
Position Details:
- Assists customers with reference and readers’ advisory inquiries
- Assists customers with the use of technology, devices, information resources (print and electronic) and in the use of various service applications and web based platforms
- Provides customers with instruction in the use of the Library and its collections and services
- Develops, maintains and facilitates access to the Library’s local history collection
- Functions as a system-wide resource for local history and genealogy services and collections
- Supervises Local History room volunteers and Library pages
- Assists with request for local history research and genealogical information
- Assists with adult programming and outreach as required
- Provides courteous, efficient and effective service to the public
- Has an understanding and commitment to the principles of intellectual freedom, inclusiveness and service excellence
- Perform other job related duties as required
Appointment Details:
Hours: 73 bi-weekly, includes evenings and weekends
Salary range: $23.79 to $28.38 per hour, plus benefits
