Your opportunity:
The Laboratory Technician will report to the Principal Investigator, and will provide research and administrative support in the research lab. The incumbent will be the first point of contact for the lab, ensure its smooth operation including maintaining equipment and inventory, and ensure to follow established lab rules, processes and standards when carrying out assigned responsibilities.
The incumbent will perform and demonstrate routine bioengineering wet lab techniques, assist with cell line production and maintenance, conduct cellular analysis and modifications using various molecular biology techniques, optimize quantitative cellular secretion assays, and perform cellular profiling and separations using a microfluidic immunomagnetic cell sorting technology.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Applying established standards when preparing routine samples for research projects and/or experiments
- Applying established standards when determining material requirements for lab set up based on timetables and requisitions information
- Troubleshooting routine equipment issues during lab sessions
- Paying close attention to occupational safety precautions
- Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
- Providing orientation to others on work procedures and practices
- Providing general lab maintenance
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum two years experience working in a laboratory environment relevant to the development ofplatform technologies for biomolecular detection and cellular analysis
- Demonstrated experience with the following techniques: cell separations (immunomagnetic cell sorting, FACS, MACS); operation of microfluidic devices; cellular secretion assays; immunofluorescence staining; lentiviral transfection; CRISPR Cas9 systems for gene modifications; TIDE analysis for mutant verification; nanoelectrode sensor preparation (plating, coating, and functionalization); HPLC analytical and preparative separations; DNA/RNA extraction and purification; gene expression analysis (RT-qPCR); protein expression analysis (Western Blot and ELISA); image analysis using ImageJ; flow cytometry analysis using FlowJo; maintenance of murine models (including treatments, colony maintenance); preparation and maintenance of mammalian cell cultures and cell lines.
- Experience in providing orientation and demonstrating laboratory procedures and/or equipment, and assisting students with research experiments
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Experience applying lab safety and protocol procedures
- Experience in the maintenance of a laboratory and laboratory equipment
- Experience in operating standard laboratory equipment
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to research and assimilate new ideas and methods
