Section 70.1 Transfer to Information Technology Specialist 3: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service in any of the following titles: Chief Computer Operator, Information Technology Specialist 3 (Data Communications),Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database), Information Technology Specialist 3 (Systems Programming), Information Technology Specialist 4, Information Technology Specialist 4 (Operations) or Mapping Technologist 3.
Section 52.6 Transfer to Information Technology Specialist 3: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title allocated SG-21 or higher eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. 55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for an Information Technology Specialist 3 position in the New York State (NYS) Library. Under the direction of the Associate Librarian (Technical Processes), the incumbent of this position will support the various programs and services of the NYS Library. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide technical support to Library applications, by installing patches, upgrading software, working with vendors, performing client installations and testing, for applications such as KLAS, Pharos, Illiad, SirsiDynix, and Knowvation, which supports access to the Library’s Digital Collection;
- Manage technical aspects of the NYS Library’s website using Dreamweaver 20, Bootstrap, and Drupal;
- Program, analyze, design, and build effective webpages for the NYS Library using languages including JavaScript, PHP, and HTML;
- Collaborate with the OCE web team to migrate the current website from Dreamweaver to Drupal;
- Collaborate with organizations to support outreach projects, including the Personal History Initiative, which uses an open-source digital repository that stores metadata as JSON;
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with NYS Library, OCE IT units and program office staff, project managers, and executive level staff;
- Provide guidance, direction and supervision of staff and assist staff with professional development of technical and non-technical skill sets;
- Coordinate activities with other NYS Library units and business partners through clear, accurate, and timely communication;
- Work with the NYS Library, Helpdesk and other NYSED ITS technical units to identify and resolve issues with hardware, software, and applications, including Microsoft Office 365 tools, MS Access, and WebEx;
- Serve as a customer liaison for end users and 3rd party vendors;
- Collaborate with OCE IT on project teams/workgroups; and
- Manage multiple projects concurrently and meet established guidelines.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointee’s negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. The work schedule for this position includes flexible hours of Monday through Friday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $92,693 based on annual performance advances.
