The Griffith Island Club is a privately owned sporting shooting club situation in Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada. The 2300 acre island provides its membership with clay target shooting, sport fishing, game bird (Pheasant & Partridge), Turkey and Whitetail Deer hunting activities during the season. The club is a luxury retreat for some of Canada and North America’s social elite. The membership enjoy exclusive access to the club from April until December each year although it is operationally manned year round. The club in its current format was established in 1973 but its history can be dated back to 1609.
The lodge caters 22 individuals and has its own private chefs, club staff and an extensive logistical operations program including a 2700′ grass landing strip and fleet of watercraft that operate on a daily basis in season.
The club is continually developing its strategy to deliver unique and exceptional hunting experiences and is currently recruiting for the position of Game and Habitat Team Member.
This is a full-time permanent role that is in direct support of delivering on the club’s Board directives specifically related to game bird and habitat.

The job duties are as follows:
- Support the delivery of the club’s game bird and habitat management program
- Deliver on Member expectations in line with a world class hunting and shooting facility
- Working closely with Head of Game you will adhere to operational plans on all aspects relating to game bird and habitat management
- Ensure delivery of safe and interesting hunts of various kinds, applying an innovative spirit for purposes of creating memorable shooting experiences
- Deputise for the Head of Game in their absence assuming responsibility and accountability for all game related activities including the general caring, health and release of game birds
- Raise pheasants, including breeding (from incubation of eggs through to mature birds) to maturity presenting birds of the highest quality and appearance
- Support and assume responsibility for lawful predator control activities (necessary and on-going) to minimize stress to, and loss of livestock
- Working with the Head of Game, support the implementation of the game habitat farming plan including design, layout, cultivation and planting of game cover crops, forestry (including felling) and deer feed plots
- Follow all Griffith Island Club policies and procedures as directed by the ‘Executive’ and the Club Management
- Ensure all equipment, vehicles and store facilities specifically relating to game and habitat management are kept in a good state of repair and are presentable at all times
- Support the collection and collation of accurate gamebird and habitat management data in order to provide relevant and accurate briefings and formal reports to Senior Managers, the Game Committee and Board of Directors
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to multi-task & work in fast-paced environment
- Must have outdoor skills and an aptitude for operating farm and outdoor machinery
- Must possess a valid Firearms Possession & Acquisition license (PAL) along with possession of or ability to obtain Ontario Hunting Accreditation
- At least 1 year of experience in Game bird management and possess a recognised qualification in game and wildlife management and/or a professionally accredited hunt guiding certification or professional hunters qualification
- Proven experience, either through workplace or educational qualification, in the rearing of Pheasants and Partridges
- Experience with large scale Pheasant and Partridge egg incubation
- A qualification in deer management and game meat hygiene will be a distinct advantage
- Certification in the use of chainsaws, heavy machinery or other related habitat management equipment would be advantageous
- Previous experience of hunting upland style game birds (Pheasant & Partridge) and Whitetail Deer
- An understanding of working gundogs would be a distinct advantage
- Experience in the use of watercraft and a relevant certification would be welcomed
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and confidently
- Language: English, written and spoken
Additional information
- Accommodation and meals when on island are included with a working shift pattern of 10 days on, and 4 days off
- Salary is $41,600.00 per year ($20 per hour) with an annual leave entitlement of 15 days.
- Housing can be provided at the Club’s mainland property. The successful candidate will be required to pay a nominal rental for this privilege of $100 bi-monthly inclusive of all services.
