Job description: Success Beyond Limits – Fund Development Manager
Young people growing up and attending school in the Jane & Finch community are facing barriers produced by the social, structural, political and historical conditions that have developed over the past four decades.
Success Beyond Limits is a grassroots organization which responds to the needs of youth in the Jane & Finch community by identifying the obstacles placed in their path; designing interventions to help students manage and overcome these obstacles; having young people be part of the decision-making process; and staying laser-focused on ensuring the academic and personal success of all the community’s youth.
Our Vision
A collaborative, youth-led, community-based movement that provides youth with holistic supports to complete their education and experience success in their lives.
Our Mission
To improve educational outcomes, expand possibilities, and support youth in the Jane & Finch community along their individual paths to success.
Our Core Values
Youth-led: Everything we do aspires to and is designed for establishing youth ownership of SBL by engaging and responding to the voices of youth. Youth are involved in our governance, as well as planning, adjusting, and delivering programming.
Collaborative: The common ground of success in education for our youth is where we meet with individuals, organizations, agencies, institutions and movements.
Community Based: Our focus, mandate and staffing are community-based, community-focused, and community-empowered.
Flexible: All programming maintains flexibility in order to respond to amplify the voice of youth and respond to their evolving needs.
Success Beyond Limits recognizes that there are multiple systems at work which negatively impact the most vulnerable students in the school environment. For this reason, SBL:
- Opens avenues of learning to narrow the persistent opportunity gap in our community
- Harnesses the neglected or overlooked talents of middle and high school students
- Uses a unique mentorship approach firmly grounded in community knowledge to support and train senior students who have shared life experiences with their mentees.
Success Beyond Limits is constantly looking to: build our capacity; make our existing programs more sustainable; meet the identified needs of our students; and broaden our impact.
To strengthen the financial base of the organization which will enable us to advance this work, SBL requires the services of a Fund Development Manager who will help us to grow the investment we need for our existing programming and build our capacity and sustainability.
As an organization, SBL has been successful in part because of our shared leadership model where staff work collaboratively – from delivering programming to ensuring we have the necessary funds to operate. This expectation would apply equally to the Fund Development Manager.
