Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-Time Financial Analyst-Reporting to join our dynamic Financial Accounting division in Ottawa.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Gains an understanding of the business activities and requirements, including operations of Canadian Blood Services and related companies, funding, inventory and supplies, structure, and staffing.
  • Contributes to the month-end close, including assistance/preparation of monthly and quarterly financial analysis and support for the various entity financial statements.
  • Supports the Financial Accounting team with internal and external financial analysis and reporting relating to inventory and provincial and territorial billings, and various balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensures that ad-hoc requests for reports on financial information are produced in a timely manner and meet the needs of the business area and stakeholders.
  • Provides support to Senior Financial Analyst in developing year-end planning guides and activities.
  • Identifies issues and makes recommendations on improvement of accounting processes and integrity of financial data.
  • Works on special projects and related duties as required.
  • Works with other Finance groups to ensure that accounting policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensures that policies, procedures and authorization requirements are followed, and that non-compliance is followed up and rectified.
  • Communicates with appropriate groups to discuss financial issues related to their business area, as required. Interacts with external auditors, providing supporting documents as requested, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline is required. An accounting designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) is preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge in the healthcare, medical supplies or pharmaceutical is an definite asset.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills to address complex issues and problems
  • Experience working with Canadian Not-for-Profit Accounting Standards, Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise and/or International Financial Accounting Standards.
  • Ability to summarize financial information and highlight salient points in simple terms.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel is preferred.
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Works to build trust and develop relationships with team members and business
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team is required.
  • Initiative to develop subject matter expertise
  • Someone who is a strong and clear communicator
  • Demonstrates strong judgement and care in the use of, and application of, financial information
