Position Summary
The Director of Information Technology (IT) is responsible to direct the establishment and maintenance of the information technology infrastructure, safeguard hospital assets, and manage the organization’s IT function, budget and staff. This position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of information technology services and oversees operational support throughout the facility.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Managing all Information Technology processes by:
- Developing and maintaining policies, procedures and standards for implementation in the facility.
- Developing and implementing an effective departmental operating plan.
- Ensuring all existing information systems are integrated, efficient, and address the needs of users.
- Researching, analyzing, and recommending the installation of new systems to meet user needs.
- Monitoring user needs and satisfaction through the establishment of indicators.
- Preparing and monitoring the department’s operational and capital budgets.
- Preparing cost benefit analysis on capital expenditures.
- Fulfilling reasonable requests for technology and information services.
- Addressing requests that are either unreasonable or not cost-effective.
Managing the safeguarding of information system assets by:
- Defining and implementing data security policies and procedures.
- Maintaining an accurate inventory of corporate software licenses and hardware.
- Ensuring disaster recovery procedures are thoroughly documented and backup strategies are in place to maintain the reliability, security, and integrity of all information system assets.
Providing strategic Information Technology leadership to the organization through:
- Aligning IT strategy and policy with key business objectives.
- Developing and maintaining an IT framework to develop and maintain modern IT best practices and processes.
- Directing the development/implementation of project planning initiatives.
- Maintaining knowledge on IT technology advances and providing guidance regarding departmental and corporate issues, plans and upgrades.
Managing all Information Technology projects through:
- Conducting cost benefit analysis on all IT projects.
- Monitoring cost management of projects.
- Working with appropriate departments to establish project plans and resource priorities.
- Developing and maintaining appropriate project portfolios including: project proposals, funding requirements, timetables, milestones, quality reviews, presentations, status reports, etc.
- Participating in the development of specifications and the negotiation, administration, and evaluation of contracts for IT equipment and services.
- Evaluating products and services, and managing the timely and cost effective delivery of hardware, software and related IT services.
Fostering a work environment that promotes professional development and responsibility by:
- Mentoring, coaching and supporting all members of the IT department to function maximally in their role, enabling them to identify strengths and/or opportunities for further development.
- Supporting and promoting opportunities for training, workshops, seminars or other educational endeavors that would assist individuals/team to achieve goals and enhance service.
- Conducting regular meetings to ensure all direct reports have the opportunity to receive or exchange information.
- Determining departmental staffing requirements, and establishing position-related responsibilities and performance measures.
- Delegating, providing encouragement and supporting others to accept responsibility, be accountable, evaluate actions and learn from mistakes.
- Conducting performance evaluations for all direct reports.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor degree in computer science, business administration or a related field required.
- Advanced preparation in information technology, systems, and software at the College level required.
Experience:
- Minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in the management and development of complex information systems, with three – five years in a management position required.
- Related work experience within a health care environment is preferred.
- Experience in managing the implementation and support of a large systems environment required.
- Well-rounded background in various networks, software applications and hardware options required.

- Demonstrated ability to build and foster strong relationships with partners to align and integrate business strategies.
- Demonstrated high level of competence in strategic thinking, project management, business acumen and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate with external vendors, external consultants, contract staff, and other departments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary IT best practices for management of IT systems, applications, and operations.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and an outstanding team player with an ability to interact effectively with peers and to establish and maintain strong working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate, coach, mentor and lead individuals/groups to achieve quality outcomes and provide exceptional service.
- Demonstrated ability to time-manage, organize, prioritize, and multi-task.
- Demonstrated ability to be highly motivated with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations/challenges.
- Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
