Job Summary

As the leader of the Training and Technology division, and under the direction of the Fire Chief, you will be responsible for developing, managing and providing oversight to Program Standards and Evaluation , Program Delivery and the Communications Centre. You will establish programs that will enhance staff development and optimize program effectiveness for Missisauga Fire and Emergency Services, including the management of all staff assigned to these Sections. This position is a key team member and contributor to the Fire and Emergency Services Leadership team and is engaged in strategic initatives across Misisssauga Fire and Emergency Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the delivery of services in a manner compliant with applicable corporate policies, established procedures and applicable law
  • Completed monthly, quarterly and annual reports for director, commissioner and Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM)
  • Direct and manage the development, implementation and delivery of training and staff development plans
  • Manage human resources, succession planning and staff development for the Training and Communications Sections
  • Develop and manage finance and budgeting for Communications and Training Sections and prepares corporate reports from the Sections.
  • Provides research and prepares reports on assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives for the section within the Divisional goals and sets policies, procedures and priorities and ensures that work plans to achieve sections goals are established
  • Ensures appropriate direction and oversight of the Communication Centre
  • Assist in supporting the Operations Division
  • Possess the skills and credentials to assist in Command functions for large scale incidents, including EOC operations.
  • Familiarity and practical experience with on-call Chief Officer responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary graduation in Public Administration,Business Administration or Education with a minimum 5 years progressive experience in Fire Service or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Must have a strong understanding of National Fire Protection Association professional standards and the Ontario Fire Marshal and Emergency Management educational and certification programming.
  • Proven supervisory ability to direct, evaluate and effectively manage staff.
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills required, including the ability to establish effective working relationships and provide quality customer service.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 138,965.00 – $ 185,284.00
