CMHA Elgin is accepting applications for a part-time, 12-month contract for a Crisis Outreach Worker to provide client-centered, community-based Crisis Outreach Services to individuals with serious mental illness living in Elgin County. The position will include individualized assessment and planning, direct treatment, monitoring and support, systems advocacy, and resource coordination.

Hours: 21 hours bi-weekly* typically worked in 8-hour shifts between 3:00pm and 11pm predominantly on weekends, with flexibility for weekday shifts required as well.

Responsibilities

  • provide mobile, telephone, and walk-in crisis intervention and mental health support
  • provide clinical assessments, direct assistant/support, crisis intervention and stabilization, advocacy, and appropriate community linkages to clients accessing services;
  • complete intake assessments for crisis

complete intake assessments for crisis stabilization beds (SafeBeds) and provide daily support to individuals supported by the program; * liaise with hospital staff and facilitate service planning for discharge from hospital to community; and

  • follow program support guidelines, working collaboratively to develop and implement individualized client care plans.

Skills and Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • a university degree, preferably in the area of social work, psychology, nursing, or occupational therapy;
  • demonstrated knowledge and skill in clinical assessment and treatment, crisis intervention and support, relapse prevention, and client advocacy;
  • a broad knowledge of, and practice in, evidence-based treatment approaches to working with individuals with serious mental illness;
  • competence in relevant computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Outlook;
  • a valid Class G or equivalent Ontario Driver’s Licence without restrictions, ready access to a reliable individual means of transportation for business use including transportation of clients, and appropriate insurance coverage for said use of vehicle; and
  • a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • registration with a college or professional body associated with their discipline; employment experience in the mental health field;
  • employment experience in a mental health crisis support program; and knowledge of the criminal justice system and/or addictions services sector.

Compensation: $29.26 – $31.57 per hour
