Job Description:
- The Relationship Optimization Unit (ROU) Group is seeking an Associate to join its US coverage team. The team’s focus is to spearhead, develop and execute on Global Banking & Markets’ key strategic initiative to reduce the bank’s risk and exposure to certain clients, industries and/or markets. Primary responsibilities of the ROU Group are to manage relationships with large corporate and institutional clients who have been designated as exit status, create strategic and efficient exit plans to effectively manage the Bank’s balance sheet and to partner with key decision makers of clients to ensure appropriate treasury, risk and financing support as we unwind the relationship in a timely but sensitive matter.
The role holder will have the following responsibilities:
- Partner with and support one or more ROU Relationship Managers across a defined portfolio of clients and also serve as the primary Relationship Manager in some cases.
- Develop and maintain ‘trusted advisor’ relationships with key decision makers of clients (i.e. Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer).
- Work in conjunction with ROU Relationship Managers to efficiently execute a defined client-level exit strategy, across the full spectrum of banking products and services.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to create buy-in for the plan that is to be agreed with the client for exit ensuring that the scope, goals and benefits are understood and that appropriate governance is in place.
- Analyze company filings and industry research to maintain surveillance of clients’ financial strengths/weaknesses.
- Prepare timely credit applications incorporating high quality industry sector, competitor and client level analysis.
- Prepare internal approvals required for maintaining ongoing client relationships and specific transactions (including KYC, senior management, portfolio management and other internal approvals).
- Proactively monitor financial reporting & analysis on a portfolio wide basis to track the team’s success in achieving its goals.
- Assist the Relationship Manager in negotiation of transaction-specific documentation.
- Prepare briefing notes for Relationship Management team in advance of key client meetings.
- Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Team check in are three times a week, work is consistently discussed and monitored. The project is relatively new and training would be done via ZOOM with the team.

Additional Skills:
- Ability to develop effective stakeholder relationships, both internally and with impacted clients
- Motivated self-starter who is able to work independently with limited guidance
- Good working knowledge of banking and capital markets products & services
- Strong understanding of credit analysis and financial and non-financial risks required
- Track record of developing/maintaining productive client relationships in challenging circumstances
- Highly adaptable and resilient individual capable of delivering high quality work against strict deadlines
- Team player who can work well with others in sensitive situations
- Highly organized with an ability to manage conflicting priorities
- Strong analytical and facilitation skills to ensure business needs are met and effective/deliverable solutions can be quickly implemented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Good PC and Office skills (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
- Possess a high degree of integrity and serve as a role model in respect of client’s core values and principles.
Mandatory Responsibilities:
- 3-5 years of experience. Someone who has corporate credit skills (required) AND Spanish and/or Portuguese a plus but not required.
Education:
- Some college

Expected salary: $33.48 – 42.61 per hour
