Our growing Oakville client who is a leader in the Real Estate industry is looking for a Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years related experience but please note you do not need experience within the real estate industry to be considered. The following is the job description:

The Controller’s primary responsibilities are to provide accounting & business analytical support to the brokerage as well as planning, directing and coordinating efficient operational functions of the Accounting Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Liaise with the CFO to establish the strategic direction of the Accounting Department.
  • Ensure the Accounting Department delivers a high standard of service to our agents.
  • Daily supervision and follow up with deal processing & bookkeeping staff.
  • Monthly supervision and follow up with accounts payable clerk.
  • Develop office procedure documents for key processes.
  • Being familiar with RECO (TRESA) brokerage audit expectations and meeting those expectations
  • Being current on government legislation & compliance that impacts the accounting function of the brokerage
  • Prepare & submit monthly franchise report & payment to the organization
  • Monthly bank account reconciliations
  • Monthly prepaids, accruals, G/L posting audit, fixed asset schedule, and other monthly duties as required.
  • Prepare month end income statement, balance sheet & brokerage productivity reports
  • Prepare, file and pay monthly HST report.
  • Monitor agent’s Accounts Receivable.
  • Supervise & monitor all financial activities with our fundraising initiatives.
  • Year end – working paper preparation and liaise with external accountants to ensure completion of annual financial statements and corporate tax return.
  • Year end – Other tax reporting as required.
  • Year-end – assist with fiscal budgeting.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Provide competent back-up for all the responsibilities of the Accounting Department.
  • Strictly adhering to our company Employee Handbook manual, in particular the areas related to privacy & confidentiality.
  • Business attire required as per guidelines in Employee Handbook manual.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Business or similar program. CGA, CMA, CPA designation preferred.
  • Prior experience in managing an accounting department is ideal.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Business Suite (GMail, Google Drive, Sheets, Forms)
  • Strong general computer skills.

Please note that you will be overseeing 4 people within the accounting department. that really thrive in a team environment. You must be tech savvy and have strong communication skills.

Salary 80k-95K.
