Oakvillegreen Conservation Association is a not-for-profit environmental organization with a vision to make Oakville a living city with enhanced natural diversity, stronger connections between natural areas, and healthier green spaces. We have been working since 2000 to reconnect people to the natural environment in their community through education, advocacy and opportunities for hands-on action.

Gain some hands-on experience developing communication campaigns, creating promotional materials and digital content to support Oakvillegreen’s community activities and promote our mission.

Overview of Position

The Communications Specialist will support Oakvillegreen’s ongoing communication campaigns, environmental education and outreach activities. Specialized work includes:

  • Creating compelling digital content to promote Oakvillegreen’s programs to various stakeholders. Includes social media posts, blog posts, e-newsletter stories, email campaigns and website content.
  • Designing basic graphics for use in Oakvillegreen’s digital and printed communications, including program and community outreach materials, fundraising materials, social media applications and website.
  • Assisting with the design, development and maintenance of an engaging website.
  • Liaising with Oakvillegreen program staff to create compelling promotional and educational material for each program area as needed, such as presentations, videos, and print material.
  • Photography at Oakvillegreen community events and maintenance of Oakvillegreen’s digital photo library
  • Contributing to the creation of a digital content plan and schedule for Oakvillegreen.

Qualifications:

  • aged 18- 30 years at start of employment, to conform to the eligibility requirements of the Federal CSJ grant
  • passionate about environmental conservation and environmental issues
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • experience in digital design, social media, communication campaigns or website development
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Excel, Google Docs/Forms
  • proficiency in webinar based tools (Zoom, Facebook Live etc)
  • ideally, undertaking post-secondary education in a communications field
  • willingness to work some evenings and weekends as necessary
  • driver’s license and access to a car is an asset

Eligibility Requirements:

This position is made available through Service Canada’s Summer Jobs Program. The following requirements are necessary:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 30
  • Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
  • Note that foreign students are not eligible
  • Valid vulnerable sector screening report (will be requested on offer of hire).
  • Hiring will be contingent on receipt of CSJ funding.

Details

  • Length of employment will be up to 23 weeks (May 17 – October 25th, 2021)
  • 30 hours per week at $14.25/hour
  • The ideal start date is the week of May 17th, 2021
