Job description: We are seeking a permanent, full-time CEO for our community library system, with branches in Lansdowne (administration centre), Lyndhurst and Seeley’s Bay. The Library Board, through the CEO, is responsible for the administrative and financial operations of the Township’s Archives.

The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands (TLTI) is a rural township in Eastern Ontario. The population is 9,300 augmented by many seasonal residents.

  • Nurture strong community connections and pro-actively seek new partnerships
  • Ensure a safe and supportive working environment

  • Solidify branding and marketing by building staff capacity and competencies
  • Build on the exploration of alternative sources of revenue
  • Anticipate trends; position the Library to meet community needs, now and in the future
  • Manage re-accreditation: currently postponed due to COVID; audit required upon notice from the Ontario Public Library Guidelines Monitoring and Accreditation Council

The Candidate

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Library and Information Services from an accredited university (preferred) and/or university qualifications in arts, public or business administration. Southern Ontario Library Services EXCEL Certificate in Managing a Small Public Library and other equivalent education and experience may also be considered.
  • A minimum of 4 years varied experience including management, administration and project involvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide leadership in a changing environment, to plan and work cooperatively and to build and maintain an effective customer service team.
  • Sound organizational, planning and management skills demonstrated in progressively responsible positions with a history of results and positive change, preferably in public libraries.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Experience with financial and human resources management practices.
  • Experience working directly with a volunteer board and public officials.
  • Demonstrated marketing and networking skills. Commitment to participate in activities related to community and library development.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Public Libraries Act, 1990 and all applicable provincial legislation.

NOTE: The position requires travel throughout Leeds and Grenville and neighbouring regions. Evening and weekend time commitments are occasionally needed; Board meetings are currently held in the morning.

Compensation:

The current salary range is $80,283 – $93,364 (5 step grid) based on a 35-hour week. In coordination with the Township, the Library offers a benefits plan, and participates in the OMERS pension plan.
